Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1549809724513722374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forcefully denied<\/a> Wednesday that her arrest outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday was &#8220;performative art.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But information on social media suggests the incident was not organic \u2014 but completely staged.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the details?<\/h3>\n<p>About 30 minutes before the arrests of pro-abortion protesters outside the Supreme Court \u2014 which included more than a dozen Democratic lawmakers \u2014 a staffer for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) bragged on social media about the plan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Members of Congress, including @IlhanMN will be participating in a civil disobedience at the Supreme Court, potentially including arrests, shortly. 1 PM ET\/12 PM CT,&#8221; staffer Jeremy Slevin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeremyslevin\/status\/1549436243909529605\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>, explaining the incident would be live-streamed.<\/p>\n<p>Once Capitol police briefly detained Omar, Slevin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeremyslevin\/status\/1549464039989862405\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published video<\/a> of her via the livestream.<\/p>\n<p>The arrests, in fact, were the entire point of the demonstration \u2014 and Ocasio-Cortez admitted as much on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was an activist-led civil disobedience, where activists &#038; organizers from [the far-left Center for Popular Democracy Action Fund ] + others asked members of Congress to submit themselves for arrest in front of the Supreme Court,&#8221; Ocasio-Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/aoc\/2886612785234493392\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Examiner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/aoc-ilhan-omar-supreme-court-arrest-staged-soros-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> the Center for Popular Democracy Action Fund as a &#8220;progressive dark money group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2018\/10\/05\/no-george-soros-isnt-paying-kavanaugh-protesters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded by<\/a> billionaire George Soros.&#8221; CPD Action Fund is the sister organization of Center for the Popular Democracy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"shortcode-media shortcode-media-rebelmouse-image\">\n        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"5dc89\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"2c1f81e5a54a450b2da76b32eabf76ae\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image\" src=\"denied:data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=&#039;http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg&#039;%20viewBox=&#039;0%200%201893%20944&#039;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/assets.rebelmouse.io\/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJpbWFnZSI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXNzZXRzLnJibC5tcy8zMDE5Mzk2MC9vcmlnaW4uanBnIiwiZXhwaXJlc19hdCI6MTY4OTQwMTczNH0.jvMLtga2dUGTVnGuGbzyX2NMgt6ZlwU6fuGb6yJnYMM\/img.jpg?width=980\" width=\"1893\" height=\"944\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez then claimed what happened &#8220;is very different than a &#8216;publicity stunt&#8217; planned and led by members themselves for a headline.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>She is right. But it was a publicity stunt nonetheless, planned by activists to raise money for abortion rights.<\/p>\n<p> In fact, CPD Action celebrated the arrests on Facebook and directed supporters to <a href=\"https:\/\/scotus.cpdaction.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an immaculately designed landing page<\/a> about the incident, urging supporters to donate money.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Moments ago, leaders from CPD Action network organizations, members of Congress &#038; more participated in a powerful civil disobedience demonstration &#038; got arrested to protect our RIGHT to SAFE &#038; LEGAL abortions,&#8221; the Facebook post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CPDAction\/posts\/415932863905134\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read<\/a>. &#8220;This is a clear message to SCOTUS and lawmakers that #WeWontBackDown until ALL pregnancy-abled people are treated as full human beings with the autonomy to make decisions about OUR OWN bodies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>What did the Capitol Police say?<\/h3>\n<p>Technically, the lawmakers and everyone else detained during the protest were arrested, but none were handcuffed. They were also fined.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As is standard for peaceful, planned protests, those who were arrested were ticketed and released on site,&#8221; a Capitol police spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/aoc-ilhan-omar-supreme-court-arrest-staged-soros-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nobody was handcuffed, as is standard for a noncustodial arrest.
