Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) announced on July 19 that he would oppose the confirmation of President Joe Biden\u2019s nominee for U.S. attorney in his state, on the basis of tweets the nominee made about him following the events of Jan. 6, 2021. Johnson said the nominee would act as \u201canother political partisan\u201d if confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>In several since-deleted tweets, Sopen Shah, Biden\u2019s pick for U.S. attorney for the Western District of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-wisconsin\">Wisconsin<\/a>, made several derogatory comments about Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>During the Capitol breach on January 6, Shah said in a tweet <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210106203608\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sopen_Shah\/status\/1346918348622336001\">preserved by web archives<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cTHIS IS TERRORISM\u201d in response to reports that shots had been fired inside the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, following a comment by Johnson that those who objected to certifying the electoral count were not responsible for the violence the day before, Shah said <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210107152603\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sopen_Shah\/status\/1347202424688275457\">in another archived tweet<\/a> that \u201cWisconsin\u00a0will teach [Johnson] a thing or two about accountability in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210212212912\/https:\/twitter.com\/Sopen_Shah\/status\/1360340127168536576\">In another tweet<\/a>, after Johnson applauded President Donald Trump\u2019s lawyers for their performance in a case at the time, Shah said, \u201cI am 110% confident that @SenRonJohnson does not know how law works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason we have a two-tiered system is because our justice system is increasingly populated with political partisans who are incapable of administering justice equally,\u201d Johnson said of Shah\u2019s nomination. \u201cThrough tweets that she has now deleted, Ms. Sopen Shah demonstrated she would be yet another political partisan within our justice system. As a result, I will not support her nomination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), the other senator from the state, called Shah\u00a0\u201cextremely well qualified\u201d to serve as U.S. attorney and accused Johnson of \u201cobstructing his own recommendation,\u201d noting that both she and Johnson had supported Shah\u2019s nomination the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Johnson is<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
