David Valadao, would have made it illegal for oil from the emergency stockpile to be sent to China after President Joe Biden\u2019s latest release sent 1 million barrels to Beijing enterprises. Democrats killed the motion with 219 voting against and 206 Republicans voting in favor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is irresponsible and dangerous for the United States to provide a foreign adversary with fuel that we need to keep here in the United States in case of an emergency,\u201d Valadao said promoting his proposal on the floor of the House. \u201cIt seems the Biden administration is helping to support China\u2019s national security at the expense of our own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/06\/joe-biden-is-sending-u-s-reserve-oil-overseas-as-americans-cope-with-record-gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> that American oil from the strategic petroleum reserves maintained for sudden supply shocks was shipped to the east Asian adversary as opposed to U.S. refineries. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/doe-announces-sales-strategic-petroleum-reserve-combat-putins-price-hike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to the Energy Department, 950,000 barrels ended up in the hands of Unipec, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/unipec-america-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trading arm<\/a>\u00a0of the China Petrochemical Corporation owned entirely by the Chinese government. The company is also known as \u201cSinopec,\u201d in which the president\u2019s son Hunter Biden invested $1.7 billion through the private equity firm BHR Partners. <\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden\u2019s lawyer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/20\/world\/hunter-biden-china-cobalt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0The New York Times last fall that he \u201cno longer holds any interest, directly or indirectly,\u201d in the private equity firm built while his father was vice president. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/hunter-biden-still-listed-as-part-owner-of-chinese-firm-despite-divestment-claim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a>\u00a0to the Washington Examiner, however, Hunter Biden remained listed as a part-owner of the firm as late as March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness records from China\u2019s National Credit Information Publicity System accessed Tuesday continue to identify Skaneateles as a 10% owner in BHR, and Washington, D.C., business records continue to list Biden as the only beneficial owner of Skaneateles,\u201d the Examiner reported in March. \u201cThe White House has routinely deflected questions about Biden\u2019s business dealings to his attorneys, who have remained largely mum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, 19 House Republicans sent a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm with demands for a briefing on the sale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to sell to Unipec raises questions about why the Biden Administration is selling oil from the SPR to China, especially when the sale may enrich Hunter Biden, the President\u2019s son,\u201d wrote lawmakers led by Kentucky Rep. James Comer. \u201cThis transaction is even more troubling given that evidence continues to mount showing the Biden family peddled access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/20\/house-republicans-want-answers-about-oil-sale-to-hunter-biden-linked-china-co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published <\/a>exclusively by the New York Post, which also broke a series of stories from an abandoned Delaware laptop that contradicted Joe Biden\u2019s repeated claims of never speaking business with his son \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2019\/08\/28\/biden-brother-business-2020-1476815\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">or with anyone else<\/a>.\u201d Emails from the laptop reportedly belonging to Hunter Biden also implicated the president in corrupt business deals with the CCP, now enriched by American reserve oil.<\/p>\n<p>In May, President Biden tapped the strategic petroleum reserves to unleash 1 million barrels of oil daily for 180 days, which will align conveniently with the fall election cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/01\/joe-biden-is-doing-everything-possible-to-avoid-unleashing-american-energy-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instead<\/a> of encouraging domestic energy production. By the end of Biden\u2019s latest release, 260 million barrels will be depleted from the reserves, which have an authorized capacity of up to 714 million. The Department of Energy has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/doe-announces-long-term-buyback-plan-ensuring-continued-availability-strategic-petroleum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> plans to replenish only 60 million barrels, leaving the reserves at their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&#038;s=WCSSTUS1&#038;f=W\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lowest level<\/a> since 1985.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Department has also refused to comply with requests made under the Freedom of Information Act probing the use of the emergency reserves in the absence of any real emergency such as a hurricane or cyberattack. Instead, Biden\u2019s ordered releases from the stockpile seem to be efforts to save political capital. Earlier this month, the Functional Government Initiative, a nonprofit government watchdog,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/07\/watchdog-sues-energy-department-to-learn-if-bidens-oil-releases-are-politically-motivated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed a lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0to compel records that would grant insight into the administration\u2019s decision to tap the storage of petroleum.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S., however, is not the only nation to tap into its emergency oil reserves to tamp down high gas prices. China, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/exclusive-china-boosts-oil-reserves-ignoring-us-push-global-release-2022-02-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">equally sized reserves,<\/a> has tapped only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/exclusive-china-agreed-with-us-oil-reserves-release-near-lunar-new-year-sources-2022-01-14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">7.4 million<\/a> barrels of its own stockpile while U.S. emergency supplies are shipped to Beijing. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
