Wade and a similar decision meant the ban was no longer violative of legal precedent.<\/p>\n<p>The ban in question, the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/federal-judges-block-strict-abortion-laws-in-tennessee-georgia_3423831.html\">was blocked<\/a>\u00a0by U.S. District Judge Steve Jones, an Obama appointee.<\/p>\n<p>Jones said the law, which barred abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, ran counter to Roe, which forbade states from prohibiting the termination of a pregnancy prior to viability. He also ruled that including unborn children in the definition of a \u201cnatural person\u201d was unconstitutionally vague, citing Roe.<\/p>\n<p>But the Supreme Court in June <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/supreme-court-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-abortion-precedent_4555931.html\">struck down Roe and a similar ruling<\/a>, finding that the right to an abortion is not found in the U.S. Constitution. The top court\u2019s decision came in a case concerning a Mississippi law,\u00a0Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe district court entered a summary judgment for the abortionists challenging the Georgia law and permanently enjoined state officials from enforcing it. But intervening Supreme Court precedent, Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Org., 142 S. Ct. 2228 (2022),\u00a0makes clear that no right to abortion exists under the Constitution, so Georgia may prohibit them. And the expanded definition of natural person is not vague on its face,\u201d the appeals court panel said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22090244-decision-in-sistersong-v-georgia\">Wednesday\u2019s 16-page decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe vacate the injunction, reverse the judgment in favor of the abortionists, and remand with instructions to enter judgment in favor of the state officials,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, the court stayed the injunction.<\/p>\n<p> Reaction <\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood, one of the plaintiffs in the case,<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Georgia\u2019s abortion ban took effect on July 20, immediately after a federal appeals court overturned a lower court order.
