He also owes close to $425,000 to lawyers who represented him during the government investigation into an alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/mayor-de-blasio-agrees-to-be-questioned-federal-prosecutors-investigation-possible-pay-to-play-campaign-for-one-new-york\/260926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pay-to-play scheme<\/a> involving political appointments and campaign contributions, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, two committees created to aid de Blasio\u2019s 2020 presidential campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/committee\/C00706697\/?cycle=2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">de Blasio 2020<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/committee\/C00683664\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fairness PAC<\/a>, don\u2019t have enough cash on hand to pay the over $100,000 in combined debt, Federal Election Commission filings show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt turns out that De Blasio\u2019s short-lived run for Congress was the perfect tool for him to convince donors to give him new money which he can now use to pay off his old debts,\u201d Foldenauer told The City.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BilldeBlasio\/status\/1549443376189263873?s=20&#038;t=fLAmOxtTluD9_wwsXOa3mA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> he was leaving the race in a Twitter video Tuesday, saying ,\u201d<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">It\u2019s clear the people of [New York\u2019s 10th district]<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> are looking for another option and I respect that.<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201d The former mayor said he will bow out of \u201celectoral politics and focus on other ways to serve.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It\u2019s clear the people of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NY10?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NY10<\/a> are looking for another option and I respect that.
