Filings indicate the payments were for \u201cslate mailer management fees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karen Waters runs\u00a0Progressive Connections, Fox News reported, and has been organizing\u00a0slate-mailing operations to bolster her mother\u2019s reelection campaigns over the past two decades.<\/p>\n<p>Little is known about the company, which does not appear to have an official website, and no mention of it is made on Karen Waters\u2019s LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times has contacted Rep. Waters\u2019s office for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Slate-mailing is an age-old election practice in California but is generally uncommon across most other states.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fppc.ca.gov\/content\/dam\/fppc\/NS-Documents\/TAD\/Campaign%20Manuals\/Manual_7\/Manual_7_Ch_1_What_is_a_Slate_Mailer_Organization.pdf\">slate card<\/a>, also known as a slate mailer or voter guide, usually lists candidates who are running for office within a voter\u2019s area along with the policy measures they support or oppose.<\/p>\n<p>They also inform voters how to cast their ballots.\u00a0A consulting firm is usually hired to create such a\u00a0pamphlet or guide.<\/p>\n<p> Family Affair <\/p>\n<p>Rep. Waters,\u00a0who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, was the only federal politician to use a slate-mailer operation during the 2020 general election, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>But the congresswoman is not the only lawmaker who has paid relatives with\u00a0campaign contributions over the years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/2020\/06\/campaigns-paying-family-members\/\">OpenSecrets<\/a> found that at least 14 then-members of Congress had disbursed more than $15,000 each in wages to family members from their reelection committees, including\u00a0Reps.\u00a0Gwen Moore\u00a0(D-Wis.), Steve King\u00a0(R-Iowa), Russ Fulcher\u00a0(R-Idaho), and Conor Lamb\u00a0(D-Pa.).<\/p>\n<p>However, Waters,\u00a0a Democrat, led in campaign disbursements to family members after paying her daughter\u00a0over $187,000 during the 2020 cycle to<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reelection campaign of\u00a0Rep.
