Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/eric-schmitt\">Attorney General (AG) Eric Schmitt<\/a>, both Republicans, say that won\u2019t happen if they can help it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u201cAs the sheriff of Scotland County, I want all my citizens to know that I will not allow, cooperate or release any CCW information to the FBI, \u2018even at the threat of a federal arrest,\u2019\u201d Whitney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/missouri-sheriff-says-even-threat-arrest-he-will-not-release-gun-owners-info-fbi\">told<\/a> his community in a letter on Monday, Fox News Digital first reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoint Blank, \u2018I will go down with the ship if need be,\u2019\u201d the sheriff added.<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt addressed the coming audits last week in a strongly-worded <a href=\"https:\/\/ago.mo.gov\/docs\/default-source\/press-releases\/2022-7-13-ltr-fbi.pdf?sfvrsn=5fbbdf7_2\">letter<\/a> to FBI Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/christopher-wray\">Christopher Wray<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ago.mo.gov\/home\/news\/2022\/07\/13\/missouri-attorney-general-condemns-fbi-s-illegal-attempts-to-harvest-concealed-carry-permit-information-from-missouri-sheriffs\">demanding<\/a> the agency \u201ccease their attempts to illegally obtain information from local sheriffs on Missourians who have concealed carry permits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FBI has absolutely no business poking around in the private information of those who have obtained a concealed carry permit in Missouri,\u201d Schmitt slammed.\u00a0\u201cThe Second Amendment rights of Missourians will absolutely not be infringed on my watch. I will use the full power of my Office to stop the FBI, which has become relentlessly politicized and has virtually no credibility, from illegally prying around in the personal information of Missouri gun owners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me be perfectly clear,\u201d Schmitt said in the letter to Director Wray. \u201cAllowing federal agents from the FBI to have access to records of Missourians who have a permit to carry a concealed weapon violates Missouri law and infringes on our Second Amendment rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, the AG <a href=\"https:\/\/revisor.mo.gov\/main\/OneSection.aspx?section=571.101\">cited<\/a> RSMo. Section\u00a0571.101.9:\u00a0\u201cInformation retained in the concealed carry permit system under this subsection shall not be distributed to any federal, state, or private entities \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the AG \u201cpromises to use the full power of his Office to stop the FBI\u2019s attempts to obtain information on Missouri concealed carry weapons permit holders,\u201d the press release added.<\/p>\n<p>Whitney told Fox News Digital he\u2019s preparing to move all CCW paperwork to a secure location if an FBI federal search warrant is issued.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI contends that its audits will not \u201crequire access to lists such as state approved concealed carry holders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt no point would auditors require access to lists such as state approved concealed carry holders, nor would the CJIS Division retain information beyond what is necessary to address a specific compliance concern,\u201d the FBI told Fox News Digital, adding that the agency has \u201cbeen through this\u200b routine audit multiple times, most recently in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just last month, gun owners with CCW permits in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/california\">California<\/a> had their information exposed after Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) launched a 2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-gun-owners-data-breached-after-state-unveils-firearms-portal\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported.
