Wade.<\/p>\n<p>Forty-seven Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseDailyPress\/status\/1549513625282412544\">joined<\/a> all 220 Democrats in supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8404\/text?r=1&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Respect for Marriage Act<\/a>. The legislation requires that states recognize gay marriages performed in other states, and recognizes gay marriages under federal law. Maine Republican Susan Collins is one of three senators introducing companion <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4992\">legislation<\/a> to the Respect for Marriage Act, and Democrats are hoping that that bill will gain enough GOP support to avoid a filibuster.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Justice Clarence Thomas <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/27\/quarter-of-a-person-whoopi-goldberg-clarence-thomas-dont-come-for-him-roe-v-wade\/\">wrote<\/a> in a concurring opinion to Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization that the Supreme Court should review all of its \u201csubstantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.\u201d The Court established a right to contraception in Griswold v. Connecticut and a right to gay marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges. No other justice <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/24\/roe-v-wade-overturned-supreme-court-dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health\/\">joined<\/a> onto Thomas\u2019 concurrence, and Associate Justice Samuel Alito wrote in his majority <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/19-1392_6j37.pdf\">opinion<\/a> that fears the Court would overturn those precedent are \u201cunfounded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The House is also expected to vote on legislation prohibiting states from banning birth control, although Minority Whip Steve Scalise <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Casey_J_Wooten\/status\/1549409530232147971\">said<\/a> that that legislation would garner fewer Republican votes in favor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe there is any threat to either Loving v. Virginia, which made unconstitutional any bans on interracial marriages, or Obergefell v. Hodges, which protected same-sex marriages,\u201d Republican Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer said in a video explaining his vote in favor. \u201cWhat this Court has said, they said, \u2018Congress, do your job. Don\u2019t rely on the courts to do the legislating. Approximately 90% of Americans support the legality of condoms and the birth control pill in \u201call\u201d or \u201cmost\u201d cases, <a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/abortion-birth-control-poll\/\">according<\/a> to FiveThirtyEight.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois Sen.
