The person on the right in the original photo is Wayne \u201cTex\u201d Gabriel, not Guevara.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Guevara was a communist revolutionary who aided Fidel Castro\u2019s rise to power during the Cuban Revolution before being killed in Bolivia in 1967, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Che-Guevara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britannica<\/a>. Lennon was a member of the English band The Beatles and was assassinated in 1980, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/john-lennon-shot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">history.com<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook appears to show a black and white photo of the two playing guitar together. \u201cJohn Lennon and Che Guevara sitting together playing their guitars,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption.<\/p>\n<p>The image is digitally altered. The actual image shows Lennon and Gabriel, a guitarist, playing together in the 1970s. The image was taken by music photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bobgruen.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Gruen<\/a>, according to its description on the website <a href=\"https:\/\/erenow.net\/biographies\/john-lennons-years-of-revolution\/9.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">erenow.net<\/a>. Guevara\u2019s head appears to have simply been digitally pasted onto Gabriel\u2019s body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBandsmen noted the bond formed between John and guitarist Wayne \u2018Tex\u2019 Gabriel, who spent \u2018hours sitting cross-legged on the floor\u2019 during studio sessions,\u201d reads the image\u2019s description on erenow.net.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/tineye.com\/search\/1564f977dea4eaa8dd32649de0bade319349f138?sort=crawl_date&#038;order=asc&#038;page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reverse image search<\/a> reveals the altered image has circulated online since at least 2012. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2019\/08\/09\/lennon-quote-love-given-forgotten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Once Given, Never Forgotten\u2019 \u2013 Did John Lennon Write This Quote About Love?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time an altered image of a musician has circulated on social media.
