O\u2019Rourke, who is challenging Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott this upcoming November, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacurrent.com\/news\/with-276-million-haul-beto-orourke-sets-a-new-fundraising-record-in-texas-politics-29371692\">raked<\/a> in a state record $27.6 million in fundraising between late February and June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas is the biggest puzzle piece the Democrats are missing to creating a permanent majority,\u201d Matt Mackowiak, a Texas-based Republican strategist, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cIt\u2019s a sign that Soros\u2019 viewpoint and his platform aligns with Beto. (Photo by Sergio Flores\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Soros\u2019 donation to the Texas candidate comes on the heels of the billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transparencyusa.org\/tx\/pac\/texas-justice-and-public-safety-pac-82400-gpac\">contributing<\/a> hundreds of thousands to a Texas political action committee (PAC) called Justice and Public Safety that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/legal-issues\/pac-funded-by-george-soros-pumps-nearly-1-million-into-local-races-for-prosecutor\/2019\/06\/04\/c2df1b08-86f0-11e9-a491-25df61c78dc4_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">backed<\/a> left-wing prosecutors for office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoros\u2019 donation is going to be a problem for Beto,\u201d Mackowiak also said. \u201cHe\u2019s inserted himself into this race in a way that I think is politically unhelpful for Beto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A representative for Soros did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
