Diana DeGette of Colorado ordered staffers to take down an iconic photo of a baby whose pregnancy could be terminated under legislation passed by the House of Representatives during a Tuesday hearing.<\/p>\n<p>DeGette, chairwoman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, gave the order after Republican Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama tried to enter the \u201cHand of Hope\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/hand-of-hope\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">photo<\/a> into the record. The hearing was to discuss the effects of the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/14\/crisis-pregnancy-center-director-rebukes-horrific-elizabeth-warren-claims\/\">(RELATED: Crisis Pregnancy Center Director Rebukes \u2018Horrific\u2019 Elizabeth Warren Claims)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to show a poster, this is world renowned, it\u2019s gone in all types of magazines,\u201d Palmer said before DeGette stopped him and ordered the poster to be taken down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s pretty much self-explanatory,\u201d Palmer told the Daily Caller News Foundation about DeGette\u2019s reaction, saying there would not have been \u201csuch a loud banging of the gavel\u201d if it had just been about the rules.<\/p>\n<p>The photo, called the \u201cHand of Hope,\u201d was taken by freelance photographer Michael Clancy for <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20020116160859\/http:\/www.usatoday.com\/life\/cyber\/tech\/ctg050.htm\">USA Today<\/a> in 1999 and shows the hand of Samuel Armas grabbing onto the finger of a surgeon during a surgical procedure 21 weeks into the pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuddenly, an entire arm thrust out of the opening, then pulled back until just a little hand was showing,\u201d Clancy said on his <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelclancy.com\/?page_id=94\">website<\/a>. \u201cThe doctor reached over and lifted the hand, which reacted and squeezed the doctor\u2019s finger. As if testing for strength, the doctor shook the tiny fist. Samuel held firm. I took the picture!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The House of Representatives <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/24\/house-democrats-pass-abortion-bill-roe-v-wade\/\">passed<\/a> the Women\u2019s Health Protection Act in September, but a Senate filibuster has halted the measure. The bill would <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/11\/womens-health-protection-acti-lisa-murkowski-susan-collins-abortion-roe-v-wade-democrats\/\">nullify<\/a> parental consent laws in all 50 states and also <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/05\/democrats-legalize-third-trimester-abortions\/\">legalize<\/a> abortion in the third trimester of pregnancy, which would have included Armas.<\/p>\n<p>DeGette and Clancy did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
