Trump\u2019s supposed three-hour delay, however, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/16\/j6-committee-fabricates-more-evidence-says-trump-waited-187-minutes-to-call-for-peace-it-was-actually-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repeatedly highlighted<\/a> by members of the Jan. 6 Committee, is contradicted by detailed timelines from both The Washington Post and The New York Times. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/01\/12\/us\/capitol-mob-timeline.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to the Times, the first barriers of the Capitol building were breached at 2:13 p.m. The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/interactive\/2021\/capitol-insurrection-visual-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">timestamps<\/a> the first break in at 2:15 p.m. Trump\u2019s first tweet addressing the rioters was published at 2:38 p.m., with the president pleading for peace after just 23 minutes. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement,\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cThey are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>About 30 minutes later, Trump addressed the demonstrators again on the same platform. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence!\u201d the president wrote. \u201cRemember, WE are the Party of Law &#038; Order \u2014 respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 4:17 p.m., or two hours after the first barriers were breached, the president tweeted out a video demanding that rioters leave the Capitol \u2014 a video that Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/v2-9mdnszte.thefederalist.com\/2021\/01\/06\/twitter-locks-trumps-account-threatens-to-ban-him-for-calling-for-peace-following-capitol-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promptly removed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>False claims of a three-hour delay come directly from the Jan. 6 Committee itself. In December, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney charged the president with waiting \u201c187 minutes\u201d and said he \u201crefused to act\u201d while demonstrators swarmed the Capitol. In an <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/jan-committee-member-previews-hearing\/story?id=86743927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with ABC News last week outlining plans for the upcoming hearing, Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., explained that members will comb through those \u201c187 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times regurgitated that same false timeline on Friday, headlining its own preview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/15\/us\/politics\/jan-6-committee-trump-187-minutes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coverage<\/a> of the latest prime time show trial with, \u201cJan. 6 Panel to Dissect Trump\u2019s 187 Minutes of Inaction During Riot.\u201d The Washington Post\u2019s Jennifer Rubin followed suit on Tuesday with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/07\/19\/jan-6-committee-final-hearing-what-trump-inaction-means\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">piece<\/a> titled, \u201cWhy we should care about the 187 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe House Jan. 6 select committee on Thursday will provide a blow-by-blow account of the 187 minutes that passed during the Capitol siege in which Donald Trump did nothing to rescue lawmakers and his own vice president from the mob he unleashed,\u201d Rubin wrote. The Post columnist made no mention of the president\u2019s tweets during those 187 minutes, during which time she claims he \u201cdid nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
