The CDC denied the request in full.<\/p>\n<p>A federal law called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/app\/details\/USCODE-2011-title5\/USCODE-2011-title5-partI-chap5-subchapII-sec552\/summary\">the Freedom of Information Act<\/a> requires agencies to comply with information requests, but establishes exemptions that agencies can cite in withholding requested information. Roger Andoh, a CDC FOIA officer, cited an exemption that protects \u201cpersonnel and medical files and similar files\u201d if the disclosure of the files \u201cwould constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe information that has been withheld under Exemption 6 consists of employee names. We have determined that the individual(s) to whom this information pertains has a substantial privacy interest in withholding it,\u201d Andoh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22089312-cdc-letter\">wrote to The Epoch Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> Calls for Transparency <\/p>\n<p>Watchdog groups questioned the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Democrats and Republicans want the American people to trust government institutions, i.e. CDC, NIH and all the others, one would think members of Congress, agency bureaucrats, and the president\u2019s administration would be motivated to start by offering transparency and eliminating the taxpayer\u2019s justifiable questions and worries,\u201d\u00a0Adam Andrzejewski, CEO and founder of OpenTheBooks.com, told The Epoch Times in an email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot having the ability to see into the bureaucracy is troubling and these agencies are rife with conflicts of interest.
