First reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/15\/pelosis-husband-massive-amount-in-chips-stock-before-expected-senate-vote-subsidies\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a>, a disclosure filed by Nancy Pelosi to the House of Representatives last week revealed the trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Speaker does not own any stocks,\u201d Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hammill explained, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/nancy-pelosis-office-responds-husbands-controversial-computer-chip-stock-purchase-ahead-congress-vote\">according to<\/a> Fox Business. \u201cAs you can see from the required disclosures, with which the Speaker fully cooperates, these transactions are marked \u2018SP\u2019 for Spouse. The Speaker has no prior knowledge or subsequent involvement in any transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/plans-for-new-semiconductor-factories-across-america-hit-major-roadblock\">begins<\/a> debate on the $52 billion CHIPS for America Act, which is aimed at increasing semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the United States to address <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/inflation\">inflation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/supply-chain\">supply chain<\/a> issues.<\/p>\n<p>Hammill also commented that Pelosi mourns her colleagues\u2019 lack of compliance with the STOCK Act \u2014 a law that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-votes-for-increased-oversight-of-stock-transactions-for-federal-supreme-court-judges\">requires<\/a> top federal officials to disclose their asset transactions within a 45-day window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Speaker believes that sunlight is the best disinfectant,\u201d Hammill continued. \u201cThe Speaker has asked Committee on House Administration Chair Zoe Lofgren to examine the issue of Members\u2019 unacceptable noncompliance with the reporting requirements in the STOCK Act, including the possibility of stiffening penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A report from The New York Times\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/17\/business\/dealbook\/congress-stock-trades.html\">DealBook<\/a> \u2014 based upon research conducted by Capitol Trades \u2014 revealed that asset purchases from members of Congress and their immediate families <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sat-members-of-congress-and-their-families-traded-over-630-million-in-stocks-this-year\">amounted<\/a> to $267 million in 2021, while sales amounted to $364 million. Top officials working at the Federal Reserve have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/after-ethics-review-fed-bars-top-officials-from-trading-individual-stocks\">faced criticism<\/a> for purchasing individual stocks amid their work to chart the nation\u2019s monetary policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, insider trading is already a serious federal criminal and civil violation and the Speaker strongly supports robust enforcement of the relevant statutes by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission,\u201d Hammill added. \u201cThe Speaker led the House in passing the bipartisan Courthouse Ethics and Transparency Act, which would subject federal judges to similar disclosure requirements as those in the STOCK Act. President Biden signed this bill into law in May.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voting to begin consideration on the CHIPS Act is slated to begin as soon as Tuesday. The United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/onshoring-semiconductor-capacity-is-crucial-to-national-security\">represents<\/a> 12% of global semiconductor manufacturing and 25% of global semiconductor demand, according to Radford University management professor Zachary Collier, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/yellen-pushes-to-end-american-dependence-on-china-for-computer-chips\">majority<\/a> of global production occurring in Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Biden administration officials have pushed for the subsidy package as a solution to high inflation. According to the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/cpi.nr0.htm\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>, new and used vehicles are respectively 11.4% and 7.1% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-the-products-making-your-wallet-lighter-as-inflation-hits-new-highs\">more expensive<\/a> since June 2022 as automakers continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ford-and-gm-want-to-make-computer-chips-as-foreign-semiconductor-production-stays-bottlenecked\">battle<\/a> low computer chip availability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you have to look at the unique situation that we\u2019re in as an economy and think about how do we build more supply, how do we increase the productive capacity of our economy, so that we actually can supply more goods, bring prices down,\u201d National Economic Council Director Brian Deese said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-biden-adviser-called-out-for-saying-more-spending-will-finally-stop-inflation\">CNBC<\/a> last week. \u201cWe know the answer on semiconductors exactly.
