Reed, the son of his daughter Jennifer Clyburn Reed and son-in-law Walter A. Reed, $21,000 during the Federal Election Commission\u2019s (FEC) second fundraising quarter, the third-ranking House Democrat\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00255562\/1612611\/sb\/ALL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FEC<\/a> filings <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00255562\/1599631\/sb\/ALL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">show<\/a>. Reed, a salaried employee of the Clyburn campaign, has been paid $58,500 by the Friends of Jim Clyburn campaign committee since October 2021. Friends of Jim Clyburn also paid $7,500 in rent to 49 Magnolia Blossom LLC, a corporate entity controlled by Jennifer Clyburn Reed and Walter A. Reed.<\/p>\n<p>Walter A.C. Reed describes himself as Clyburn\u2019s campaign manager on his Twitter account. He <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/deerretlaw\/status\/1540349726838628353\">called<\/a> for court-packing shortly after the Supreme Court released its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization. Walter A.C. Reed, like his grandfather, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/deerretlaw\/status\/1483147573170999303?s=20&#038;t=wCnj36i2UXkfw5fZbc2f_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">voiced support<\/a> for eliminating the filibuster. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/16\/jim-clyburn-election-integrity-laws-jim-crow-2-0\/\">(RELATED: \u2018This Is Jim Crow 2.0\u2019: Rep. The Clyburn campaign has paid the <a href=\"https:\/\/businessfilings.sc.gov\/BusinessFiling\/Entity\/Profile\/bac04dec-f11e-4016-89a4-150b4f0e6125\">LLC<\/a>, which lists Clyburn\u2019s son-in-law Walter A. Reed as its registered agent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/disbursements\/?data_type=processed&#038;committee_id=C00255562&#038;recipient_name=magnolia+blossom+llc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$70,000<\/a> since March 2020. Tom Steyer\u2019s failed 2020 presidential campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/disbursements\/?data_type=processed&#038;committee_id=C00711614&#038;recipient_name=49+magnolia+blossom+llc&#038;two_year_transaction_period=2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paid<\/a> 49 Magnolia Blossom more than $45,000 for office space. Clyburn ultimately endorsed Joe Biden on the eve of the South Carolina primary.<\/p>\n<p>Although many members of Congress do <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/18\/jahana-hayes-still-using-campaign-funds-pay-family-fec-records\/\">pay<\/a> family members through campaign accounts, ethics experts frown upon the practice. Clyburn is one of the worst offenders, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/19\/jim-clyburn-pays-family-members-campaign-funds\/\">distributing<\/a> more than $260,000 to family members since 2010 through the Friends of Jim Clyburn committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are two considerations. The first is legal. At the end of the day, as long as the family member is providing bona fide services, and that is the fair market value of the services, then it is legal,\u201d Dan Backer, a campaign finance attorney, told the Daily Caller. \u201cThe other angle is optics and ethics. It looks really shady to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for Clyburn did not respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for information about how the campaign determines the fair market value of Walter A.C. Reed\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an obvious ethical problem,\u201d Backer continued. \u201cIn many other industries, paying family members and relatives of decision-makers usually involves some sort of conflict-of-interest waiver. Jennifer Clyburn Reed currently <a href=\"https:\/\/scrcc.org\/f\/senate-confirms-dr-jennifer-clyburn-reed-to-top-scrc-position-1\">sits<\/a> on the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission.
