Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said that President Joe Biden should not have rewarded a brutal dictatorship like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-saudi-arabia\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> with a visit.<\/p>\n<p>In reply to Raddatz\u2019s question whether the visit to Saudi Arabia should have been made, Sanders said,\u00a0 \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanders pointed to an incident that happened back in 2018 saying, \u201cYou have a leader of that country who was involved in the murder of a Washington Post journalist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crown prince has been accused of orchestrating the murder of Saudi Arabia journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-jamal-khashoggi\">Jamal Khashoggi<\/a> in 2018, after Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post, went into a Saudi embassy in Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that that type of government should be rewarded with a visit by the president of the United States,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, you got a family that is worth $100 billion, which questions democracy, which treats women as third-class citizens, which murderers and imprisons its opponents,\u201d he said of the Saudi royal family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/us-senator-bernie-sanders-slams-biden-over-saudi-visit-2022-07-17\/\">Reuters reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, it is not necessary for America to cozy up with such a country, Sanders pointed out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Put Pressure on Oil Companies <\/p>\n<p>Sanders further disputed the Biden administration\u2019s intent of reaching out to the OPEC countries for oil.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he urged the U.S. president to push the oil companies to cease swindling domestic consumers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI happen to believe that we\u2019ve got to tell the oil companies to stop ripping off the American people and if they don\u2019t, we should impose a windfall profits tax on them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders expressed his concern about the looming recession that the United States could face, but noted that the billionaires had seen their wealth increase by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/billionaire-money-increase-covid-pandemic-b1940590.html\">$2 trillion<\/a> throughout the pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re looking at the outrageously high cost<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In comments to ABC This Week host Martha Raddatz on July 17, Sen.
