A Pennsylvania State Department spokesperson denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Social media users have been sharing a claim that Pennsylvania counties will no longer be accepting mail-in ballots. \u201cPennsylvania counties will not be accepting mail-in ballots,\u201d reads one such post shared on Facebook. One iteration on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DJTTracker\/status\/1547250979158069249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> received over 5,000 retweets and 24,000 likes.<\/p>\n<p>This claim is false. Act 77, which was signed into law in 2019, allows voters to vote by mail in the state for any reason, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/05\/16\/1096943765\/some-pennsylvania-lawmakers-who-helped-pass-mail-in-voting-law-now-want-it-throw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Department of State\u2019s website still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vote.pa.gov\/Voting-in-PA\/Pages\/Mail-and-Absentee-Ballot.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">states<\/a> that residents can request a mail-in ballot for the upcoming 2022 general election. The viral claim may stem from the fact that Act 77 is currently facing a legal challenge in the state\u2019s Supreme Court, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pennsylvania-945da9d7cc39f52e0515577ae1d974c6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Associated Press<\/a>. A senior judge of the Commonwealth Court ruled the act was unconstitutional, but the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned that decision in March and kept the law on the books until the higher court could make its own decision, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Lyon, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of State, told Check Your Fact that the claim was \u201cfalse and an example of disinformation.\u201d<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/06\/30\/fact-check-texas-wisconsin-arkansas-2020-decertified\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Have Texas, Wisconsin And Arkansas Decertified The 2020 Presidential Election?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAct 77 of 2019, which established no-excuse mail-in voting in Pennsylvania, remains in effect,\u201d said Lyon. \u201cEligible voters continue to have the secure and convenient option of mail-in voting in the Nov. 8, 2022, general election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.philadelphiavotes.com\/about-us\/commissioner-seth-bluestein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seth Bluestein<\/a>, a Philadelphia City Commissioner, said he was \u201cnot aware of any communication with Philadelphia County about mail-in ballots beyond normal planning for the General Election.\u201d He pointed Check Your Fact to an article from <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/14\/court-decision-may-invalidate-pennsylvanias-no-excuse-mail-in-vote-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Federalist<\/a>, titled \u201cCourt Decision May Invalidate Pennsylvania\u2019s No-Excuse Mail-In Vote Law,\u201d about the legal challenges to Act 77 that he suggested may be the source of the viral claim.
