Version: 4.0.47--><p>A number of Americans are racing to secure new jobs before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-recession\">recession<\/a> hits the country, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joblist.com\/jobs-reports\/q2-2022-united-states-job-market-report\">survey<\/a> from the job posting website Joblist.<\/p>\n<p>Joblist surveyed over\u00a015,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-job-seekers\">job seekers<\/a> from across the country from April to June 2022 to find out how\u00a0concerned they were about rising inflation and a potential economic downturn, as well as whether they regret walking away from their previous jobs during what has been dubbed the \u201cGreat Resignation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the more than\u00a015,000 job seekers surveyed,\u00a011,088 were asked about their outlook on the job market and expectations for the future, while\u00a0524 were asked about recession-related concerns specifically.<\/p>\n<p>Another\u00a0628 respondents who quit their previous jobs were asked whether they regret their decision.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/graph\/?id=JTSQUL,\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">48 million Americans<\/a>\u00a0quit their jobs in 2021 according to\u00a0Federal Reserve Economic Data, and quitting levels remained high\u00a0through the first half of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that over one in four people who quit their previous jobs (26 percent) regretted their decision, while 42 percent of those who found a new job after quitting their previous role said the new job \u201chas not lived up to their expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that\u00a0nearly half of job seekers (49 percent) believed the job market would get worse in the next six months, and as a result, 60 percent said they felt more urgency to find a new job before conditions in the job market change.<\/p>\n<p>Two out of three job seekers reported that they were \u201cworried\u201d or \u201cvery worried\u201d about a potential recession, with 80 percent stating they expected the\u00a0United States to enter a recession in the next year.<\/p>\n<h2>Inflation Still on the Rise<\/h2>\n<p>The survey comes as prices continue to soar across the United States, with annual inflation reaching\u00a09.1 percent in June, a 40-year high that\u2019s greater than the\u00a08.8 percent forecast by economists.<\/p>\n<p>While the U.S. economy added\u00a0372,000 jobs\u00a0in June and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-unemployment\">unemployment<\/a> rate was at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/empsit.pdf\">3.6 percent,<\/a> inflation continued to rise and recession fears were heightened.<\/p>\n<p>Economist Mohamed El-Erian on July 13 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/3rd-wave-of-inflation-will-be-unleashed-if-fed-doesnt-get-its-act-together-el-erian_4597521.html\">sounded the alarm<\/a>\u00a0in a Twitter thread about a\u00a0third wave of inflationary pressure that is building across the country and set to be \u201cunleashed\u201d failing swift action from the\u00a0Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>El-Erian,\u00a0the former CEO of American investment management firm PIMCO, noted that while inflation will likely come down over the next couple of months, a third wave of\u00a0underlying causes of inflation will \u201cbe unleashed if the Fed doesn\u2019t get its act together quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the first best policy option now long gone due to the first two stages of the ongoing Fed policy mistake, the recession risks are increasing accordingly,\u201d El-Erian wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis threatens a second big hit for households, especially the most vulnerable segments of our society,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, economists now widely believe that Fed officials will\u00a0raise interest rates by another 75 basis points in July in an effort to combat sky-high inflation.<\/p>\n<p>While fears abound over the cost of living and a potential recession on the horizon, the labor market is still showing signs of strength, with 11.3 million job openings at the end of May, marking nearly two jobs for every unemployed individual, the\u00a0Bureau of Labor Statistics (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/empsit.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-katabella-roberts\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Katabella Roberts is a reporter currently based in Turkey.
