The administration also called the project a \u201csignificant milestone\u201d in efforts to lower energy costs for consumers and reach a goal of permitting 25 gigawatts of solar, wind and geothermal energy production on public lands by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApproving this new transmission line on our public lands will accelerate our nation\u2019s transition to a clean energy economy by unlocking renewable resources, creating jobs, lowering costs, and boosting local economies,\u201d Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said in a statement. \u201cThrough robust engagement with states, cities and Tribes, the Interior Department is committed to diversifying the nation\u2019s renewable energy portfolio while at the same time combating climate change and investing in communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the project\u2019s route will span federal lands in Arizona and will carry 3,200 megawatts of electricity to power roughly 960,000 homes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/blm-approves-construction-of-ariz-to-calif-power-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">E&#038;E News reported<\/a>.
