Brad\u00a0Schneider (D-Ill.) and instructs the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Defense (DOD) to publish a report analyzing \u201cwhite supremacist and neo-Nazi activity\u201d within military and law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment passed in a 218\u2013208 vote where it faced unilateral opposition from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-republicans\">Republicans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch behavior, such extremism is a threat to us in all segments of society. There is no reason to believe that our military is any different,\u201d Schneider said on the House floor late on the evening on July 13 in defense of the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are exceptions,\u201d Schneider insisted. \u201cThey are rare, but we must do everything we can to identify them and to thwart them before risks become a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the amendment is passed by the Senate, the FBI, DHS, and DOD would be required within 180 days to send Congress a report on the number of people discharged from either military service or law enforcement for \u201cwhite supremacist\u201d or \u201cneo-Nazi\u201d ideology.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans opposed the amendment, which they said was overly intrusive and \u201cdenigrates\u201d law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis amendment attempts to create a problem where none exists by requesting investigations into law enforcement and the armed services for alleged rampant white supremacist or white national sympathies,\u201d one such critic, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), said in opposition to the amendment on the House floor.<\/p>\n<h2>Similar Measures Blasted As \u2018Thought Police\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>This is not the first effort by Democrats to pass such a measure, and similar measures have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/senate-republicans-reject-domestic-terror-bill-claim-democrats-are-creating-thought-police_4493088.html\">faced condemnation by Republicans<\/a> in the past for trying to impose \u201cthought police\u201d on military service members and law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has made a name for himself in the Senate for long-held opposition to civil liberties violations by federal agencies, blasted a previous bill that was similar to Schneider\u2019s amendment in a May 26 speech on the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p>Though that bill was \u201costensibly\u201d about domestic terrorism, Paul said, the bill \u201cwould be more accurately called \u2018the Democrat plan to brand and insult our police and soldiers as white supremacists and neo-Nazis.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are young men and women who have given arms and legs and \u2026 I don\u2019t know of an example of some guy who says, \u2018Oh yeah, we were blown up by an IED but we\u2019ve got to leave that guy because he\u2019s of a different race,&#8217;\u201d Paul continued. \u201cHow insulting!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul said the bill would create a task force to investigate American soldiers by reading their emails, tracking their web browser history, and implying that they\u2019re guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is an insult to every police officer in this country.
