It came after she said she had made \u201ccareless\u201d tweets about being bummed over the renewal of her ABC sitcom \u201cFresh Off The Boat.\u201d The reason was because she was would have to turn down a passion project, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/tv\/news\/constance-wu-suicide-fresh-off-the-boat-backlash-1235317072\/\">Variety noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it: 3 years ago, when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe,\u201d Wu\u2019s statement read, in part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt awful about what I\u2019d said, and when a few DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I\u2019d become a blight on the Asian American community, I started feeling like I didn\u2019t even deserve to live anymore,\u201d she added. \u201cThat I was a disgrace to [Asian Americans], and they\u2019d be better off without me. Looking back, it\u2019s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that\u2019s what happened. [Asian Americans] don\u2019t talk about mental health enough.
