As a result, they will not be able to travel with the Royals for a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/34238893\/andrew-benintendi-whit-merrifield-10-unvaccinated-kansas-city-royals-players-toronto-blue-jays-series\">ESPN<\/a> reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an individual choice,\u201d Royals manager Mike Matheny shared. \u201cThe organization\u2019s done a real good job bringing in professionals and experts to talk guys through tough conversations and then put it in their hands to make the decisions they believe is best for them and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those players who won\u2019t make the trip include four of the team\u2019s most productive hitters and two top starting pitchers. They include outfielder Andrew Benintendi; right-hander Brady Singer; center fielder Michael A. Taylor; outfielder Kyle Isbel; reliever Dylan Coleman; super-utilityman Whit Merrifield; catcher MJ Melendez; first baseman\/outfielder Hunter Dozier; right-hander Brad Keller; and catcher Cam Gallagher, ESPN reported.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">News: The Kansas City Royals will be missing nearly 40% of their roster for a series this week in Toronto because the players are not vaccinated, including a top trade target. <\/p>\n<p>Details free and unlocked at ESPN: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1tSEsOEqxt\">https:\/\/t.co\/1tSEsOEqxt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeffPassan\/status\/1547332117952139265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s their choice,\u201d Royals president of baseball operations Dayton Moore told reporters. \u201cIt\u2019s what they decide to do. And we\u2019ve always been an organization that promotes and encourages individual choices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, some of this affects the team,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019re disappointed in some of that, but we realize it\u2019s part of the game and part of the world we live in. We\u2019re just really looking forward to providing these players an opportunity who are getting a chance to play in Toronto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2022 All-Star Benintendi said he knows what the decision means to remain unvaccinated and that it\u2019s his \u201cpersonal decision. And I\u2019m going to leave it at that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merrifield shared a similar sentiment, adding that he didn\u2019t make the decision \u201con a whim.
