But Fried on Wednesday told the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/politics\/os-ne-nikki-fried-interview-20220713-axg63eywj5borjeuhzfpp3yuhe-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orlando Sentinel<\/a><\/em>\u00a0she is in the &#8220;process of liquidating&#8221; her Trulieve shares.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no conflict,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I made it very clear to the people of the state in 2018 that I came from the industry. That is what got me into my activism, my desire to not only expand the medical marijuana program, but also get to legalization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fried&#8217;s financial holdings have drawn scrutiny in the past. The Florida Commission on Ethics in 2021 found probable cause that Fried violated state law\u00a0for failing to disclose around $400,000 in lobbying income, a charge that Fried&#8217;s team said it wants to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a matter of public record that Commissioner Fried filed her financial disclosures months after the deadline and amended her 2018 disclosure, which revealed that her income\u00a0that year was about five times higher than what she had earlier reported,&#8221; Christina Pushaw, a spokeswoman for Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R.), <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/478639-nikki-fried-campaign-dismisses-ethics-ruling-as-political-baseless\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement. &#8220;Those facts are not in dispute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fried also told the <em>Sentinel<\/em> she is no longer engaged to\u00a0medical marijuana entrepreneur Jake Bergmann, who holds interests in around a dozen cannabis companies, at least one of which received a hemp permit from Fried&#8217;s agency. The commissioner denied involvement with the permit.<\/p>\n<p>Fried will face former Florida governor Charlie Crist in the Democratic primary on Aug. 23.\u00a0 She is <a href=\"http:\/\/stpetepolls.org\/files\/StPetePolls_2022_State_DEM_June17_K5TS8.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trailing Crist<\/a> by a large margin, according to a St. Pete Polls survey.\u00a0Neither Democrat is likely to unseat DeSantis, a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/governor\/fl\/florida_governor_desantis_vs_crist-7324.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RealClearPolitics<\/a><\/em> average of polls suggests.
