Republicans say the laptop provides evidence of the son\u2019s misbehavior and of the Biden family\u2019s corruption.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook and Twitter infamously restricted the distribution of information related to the computer\u2019s contents. Biden supporters claimed the story was manufactured by the Russian government as disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Social media also suppressed numerous stories related to the origins of COVID-19, possible medical treatments to prevent, treat, or cure the disease, and discussions about government and corporate policies implemented to deal with the virus, many of which curbed personal freedoms. Many government and corporate employees have been fired in the pandemic era for refusing to take government-approved vaccines, which they say have limited effectiveness and potentially severe side effects.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit could also provide fodder for Republicans who promise multiple investigations into government wrongdoing should they retake Congress in the November elections.<\/p>\n<p>Among the defendants are President Joe Biden, his former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, former Disinformation Governance Board executive director Nina Jankowicz, and Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to the president and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, the states allege that the administration \u201ccolluded with and\/or coerced social media companies to suppress disfavored speakers, viewpoints, and content on social media platforms by labeling the content \u2018disinformation,\u2019 \u2018misinformation,\u2019 and \u2018malinformation.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The states \u201callege the suppression of disfavored speakers, viewpoints, and contents constitutes government action and therefore violates Plaintiff States\u2019 freedom of speech in violation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-first-amendment\">First Amendment<\/a> to the United States Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also alleges that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Disinformation Governance Board was created \u201cto induce, label, and pressure the censorship of disfavored content, viewpoints, and speakers on social-media platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he filed court papers on June 14, Schmitt <a href=\"https:\/\/ago.mo.gov\/home\/news\/2022\/06\/14\/missouri-attorney-general-files-motion-for-preliminary-injunction-in-lawsuit-challenging-social-media-censorship\">said<\/a>, \u201cThe federal government\u2019s alleged attempts to collude with social media companies to censor free speech should terrify Missourians and Americans alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe may have forced the Biden Administration to forego its Disinformation Governance Board, but there is still a very real threat to Missourians and Americans\u2019 right to free speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment can\u2019t outsource its censorship to Big Tech,\u201d Schmitt added in a <a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.twitter.com\/Eric_Schmitt\/status\/1536818087953039362\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt celebrated the new court ruling in a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eric_Schmitt\/status\/1546963909185347589\">Twitter posts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA federal court granted our request for discovery &#038; documents from top ranking Biden officials &#038; social media companies to get to the bottom of their collusion to suppress &#038; censor free speech,\u201d Schmitt said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one has had the chance to look under the hood before\u2014now we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our lawsuit, we allege that top-ranking Biden Administration officials colluded with those social media companies to suppress speech about the Hunter Biden laptop story, the origins of COVID-19, the efficacy of masks, and election integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Terry A. Doughty, a Trump appointee, granted the states\u2019 motion for expedited preliminary injunction-related discovery. The request for an injunction itself will be ruled on at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>Doughty noted in his order (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/63290154\/34\/missouri-v-biden\/\">pdf<\/a>) that the states have asked the court to block the government \u201cfrom taking steps to demand, urge, encourage, pressure, or otherwise induce any social-media company or platform to censor, suppress, remove, de-platform, suspend, shadow-ban, de-boost, restrict access to content, or take any other adverse action against any speaker, content, or viewpoint expressed on social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Department of Justice officials didn\u2019t respond by press time to a request by\u00a0The Epoch Times for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The case, Missouri v.
