Wade<\/em> by designating June as the \u201cMonth of Life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Led by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), the lawmakers proposed that the president issue a proclamation each year that reaffirms \u201cthe dignity of human life\u201d and supports \u201clife both inside the womb and outside the womb, as well as the life of the pregnant mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire first obtained the proposal, which is unlikely to pass the Senate, calling for Americans to be committed to surrounding \u201cmothers, fathers, and children with the resources and tools they need to survive and thrive\u201d as well as \u201cencouraging families and communities to stand ready to assist mothers, fathers, and children.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The move celebrates the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-states-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-leaves-abortion-restrictions-to-states\">recent pro-life victory<\/a> in <em>Dobbs vs. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>, through which the Supreme Court overturned the monumental <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProtecting life and the most vulnerable among us is the most important charge of any society, and the recent landmark decision by the Supreme Court upholds that responsibility,\u201d Ernst told The Daily Wire. \u201cMy effort to mark June as the \u2018Month of Life\u2019 celebrates this major victory for the pro-life movement, one that will pave a path for countless innocent lives to be saved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ernst is joined by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Roger Wicker (R-MS), John Thune (R-SD), Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Steve Daines (R-MT), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Roger Marshall (R-KS), James Lankford (R-OK).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 63,000,000 lives have been lost\u00a0over the past 50 years because of the unconstitutional decision in Roe v. Wade,\u201d the legislation text reads, quoting the Declaration of Independence and emphasizing that \u201cthe right to life is one of the founding principles of our Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 6-3 decision in\u00a0<em>Dobbs v.s. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em> followed the early May leak of a draft opinion indicating which way the justices would likely rule. That leak prompted protests across the nation, particularly in Washington, D.C., as well as dozens of attacks and vandalism of pro-life organizations, centers, and churches.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Samuel Alito wrote that\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0and a subsequent case,\u00a0<em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em>, which upheld\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>, both must be overturned, and the right to allow, deny, or restrict the right to an abortion must reside with states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue,\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Casey<\/em>\u00a0have enflamed debate and deepened division,\u201d Alito wrote in his majority opinion (strikingly similar to the earlier leaked draft). \u201cIt is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people\u2019s elected representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The decision leaves it to states to impose restrictions on abortion.
