They were victories for the Constitution, which is what makes the progressive left\u2019s unhinged response to <em>Dobbs v. Jackson<\/em>, <em>Carson v. Makin<\/em>, and <em>New York State Rifle &#038; Pistol Association v. Bruen<\/em> all the more revealing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/maxine-waters-reacts-dobbs-ruling-hell-supreme-court-we-will-defy-them\">declared<\/a> Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., immediately following the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision. Her colleague Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., went even further. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/abortion-ruling-protesters-support-aoc-calling-supreme-court-ruling-illegitimate\">called the ruling<\/a> \u201cillegitimate\u201d and told protesters, \u201cWe have to fill the streets. Right now, elections are not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, Waters and Ocasio-Cortez are sitting members of Congress whose party habitually lectures you about \u201cdemocracy\u201d and the sanctity of American institutions. Yet they\u2019re now openly calling for defiance and anti-democratic mob justice against one of the country\u2019s core institutions. Insurrection vibes, anyone?<\/p>\n<p>This past weekend, a left-wing activist group began offering <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/09\/shutdowndc-offering-bounty-for-scotus-justices-intel\/\">bounties<\/a> for the locations of Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Some affiliated with the organization targeted Justice Brett Kavanaugh while he dined at a Washington, D.C. steakhouse last week. Ocasio-Cortez <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1545505082569117698\">mocked<\/a> the incident on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>What exactly is going on here and why is the left so upset? A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/lie-senate-justice-gorsuch-kavanaugh-collins-manchin-aoc-meet-the-press-abortion-dobbs-roe-casey-ginsburg-11656277455?mod=e2tw\">editorial<\/a> in The Wall Street Journal perfectly diagnosed what\u2019s afflicting progressives:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe fury of the left\u2019s reaction isn\u2019t merely about guns and abortion. It reflects their grief at having lost the Court as the vehicle for achieving policy goals they can\u2019t get through legislatures. The cultural victories they achieved by judicial fiat will now have to be won by persuading voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, Ocasio-Cortez isn\u2019t upset with the court\u2019s stance on the legal doctrine of stare decisis or even its interpretation of substantive due process. Given her public statements, it\u2019s doubtful she\u2019s even read <em>Dobbs<\/em>. What she\u2019s upset about \u2014 what so many like her are upset about \u2014 is the idea of living with an outcome she dislikes.<\/p>\n<p>This remarkably dishonest NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/supreme-courts-originalism-white-supremacy-rcna36409\">opinion article<\/a>, titled \u201cThe Supreme Court\u2019s originalism is white supremacy,\u201d attempts to justify the left\u2019s outrage at the high court by claiming \u201coriginalist judges express a belief that we should interpret the U.S. Constitution according to the legal opinions of 18th century white men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, at this point, it\u2019s worth pausing for a moment to ask: Since when do decent people speak this way, and how exactly do overt racial attacks on long-dead Americans pass for enlightened political thought?<\/p>\n<p>As many have already pointed out, the court\u2019s decision in <em>Dobbs <\/em>doesn\u2019t condemn Americans today to the writings of white men in 1787. On the contrary, it returns the contentious issue of when life begins to 50 different states \u2014 50 different laboratories of democracy wherein voters can have their say through their elected representatives. This prospect terrifies Democrats, who know their ideas are wildly unpopular.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/leotomalley\/status\/1544034424429461505?s=21&#038;t=LyFdI6x8eBm5Rcc6b3oMow\">poll<\/a> by Harvard\u2019s Center for American Political Studies, 72 percent of Americans support some restrictions on abortion after 15 weeks. A Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/official-polls\/fox-news-poll-just-over-half-favor-banning-abortions-after-15-weeks\">poll<\/a> from early May also found majority support for banning abortions after 15 weeks. Of course, this was the same timeframe in the supposedly controversial Mississippi law that ultimately led to the overturning of <em>Roe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But <em>Dobbs<\/em> isn\u2019t the only decision progressives seem incapable of parsing. In the aftermath of the court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/21pdf\/20-1088_dbfi.pdf\">ruling<\/a> that Maine cannot exclude private religious schools from receiving funds from a state tuition assistance program, leftist Wajahat Ali thoroughly beclowned himself by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WajahatAli\/status\/1539308886083047424\">claiming<\/a> the 6-3 ruling was part of a \u201cwhite Christian nationalist project\u201d and that it wouldn\u2019t apply to private Islamic or Jewish schools.<\/p>\n<p>In fact \u2014 as National Review\u2019s Charles C. W. Cooke so delightfully <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/charlescwcooke\/status\/1539305685686669313?cxt=HHwWgsC-wbKX29wqAAAA\">pointed out<\/a> \u2014 both the Council of Islamic Schools in North America <em>and<\/em> the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America filed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/20\/20-1088\/171699\/20210311154242895_20-1088%20Amici%20Brief.pdf\">amicus brief<\/a> in support of the petitioners.<\/p>\n<p>Ali clearly didn\u2019t bother to read the opinion, but the court held: \u201cA neutral benefit program in which public funds flow to religious organizations through the independent choices of private benefit recipients does not offend the Establishment Clause.\u201d This most certainly applies to Islamic and Jewish schools too. Claiming otherwise is nothing short of an outright lie meant to sow racial division and delegitimize the high court.<\/p>\n<p>After years of residing in safe spaces and relying on dutiful allies in the corporate media and big tech to silence their political opposition, the left is wholly ill-equipped to engage in debate and persuade their fellow Americans. That\u2019s why they are chasing justices out of restaurants and calling anyone who disagrees with them a racist.
