King&#8217;s comments spark debate on reliability of solar<\/p>\n<p>Senators on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee\u2019s Energy Subcommittee heard testimony July 13 on the drivers of high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-energy-prices\">energy prices<\/a>, a key issue for Americans across the country as inflation rages and November midterms loom closer.<\/p>\n<p>In May of this year, Rasmussen Reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/partner_surveys\/may_2022\/voters_more_worried_about_gas_prices_than_climate_change\">found<\/a> that 82 percent of likely voters in the United States considered themselves concerned about increasing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-gasoline\">gasoline<\/a> and energy costs. Fully 60 percent rated themselves \u201cvery concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same poll found that half of likely voters think catastrophic impacts from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-climate-change\">climate change<\/a> are probable over the coming century.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur reliance on fossil fuels even when we produce it here means we will be stuck paying the prices set in the global market, subject to OPEC and affiliate producers like Russia,\u201d said Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), who chairs the subcommittee, in her opening testimony.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, in his own opening testimony, Subcommittee Ranking Member Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) said that \u201cPresident Biden\u2019s Green New Deal policies\u201d were helping to drive up gas prices, citing the administration\u2019s moratorium on onshore and offshore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-oil\">oil<\/a> and gas leasing.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/biden-administration-misses-major-oil-lease-deadline\">missing<\/a> its latest deadline to issue a legally required five-year leasing plan for those sites, the Interior Department released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boem.gov\/oil-gas-energy\/national-program\/national-ocs-oil-and-gas-leasing-program-2023-2028\">a draft plan<\/a> on July 1.<\/p>\n<p>It includes \u201cno more than ten potential lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and an option for one potential lease sale in the northern portion of the Cook Inlet of Alaska.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An oil and gas attorney recently described the administration\u2019s approach as a \u201cde facto moratorium\u201d on offshore leasing <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/environment-and-energy\/oil-industry-sees-ongoing-leasing-pause-in-new-biden-gulf-plan\">to Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/07\/06\/GAS-1_JF_04012022-1200x800.jpg\"><\/a> A man pumps gas in Irvine, Calif., on April 1, 2022.
