(AP Photo\/Jose Luis Magana, File) <strong>\u2018GITMO\u2019 for Jan. 6 Prisoners<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>McBride had previously charged that the Jan. 6 defendants were being mistreated while in jail,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2021\/aug\/06\/lawyer-says-arkansan-charged-in-capitol-riot\/\"> calling<\/a> the prison where defendants are detained \u201cDC-GITMO,\u201d in reference to the notorious facility the United States keeps at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where foreign terrorists\u2014known as enemy combatants\u2014are kept, without rights afforded to American citizens.<\/p>\n<p>In October of last year, a federal judge agreed with McBride, after a prisoner represented by the attorney was left waiting for over four months to have surgery to repair a broken wrist he sustained while being arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s more than just inept and bureaucratic shuffling of papers,\u201d said U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth at the hearing where he noted bad faith amongst prison officials saying that he had to threaten them with contempt charges before the prisoner received basic medical care after the judge had ordered it, local media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/national\/capitol-riots\/judge-holds-dc-jail-officials-in-contempt-calls-for-civil-rights-investigation-into-treatment-of-capitol-riot-defendant-christopher-worrell\/65-bffe6f96-f37c-44dd-b84a-101fe00e74f3\">reported<\/a>. Judge Lamberth found two senior D.C.
