Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/11\/jan-6-committee-admits-it-isnt-even-trying-to-verify-bombshell-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> the panel did not question former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone about remarks Hutchinson attributed to him on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021 (Cipollone had previously spoken with the committee in April, long before Hutchinson\u2019s public testimony). Hutchinson said Cipollone pressured her to keep then-President Donald Trump from going to the Capitol or \u201cwe\u2019re going to get charged with every crime imaginable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw Mr. Cipollone right before I walked out onto West Exec that morning, and Mr. Cipollone said something to the effect of \u2018please make sure we don\u2019t go up to the Capitol, Cassidy. Keep in touch with me,&#8217;\u201d Hutchinson said.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple sources told The Federalist, however, that Cipollone was not at the White House on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021. Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, who is leading the Republican investigation of the riot,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/01\/exclusive-jim-banks-demands-white-house-surveillance-logs-to-vet-contested-j6-testimony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanded<\/a>\u00a0White House visitation records to investigate Hutchinson\u2019s claims. Banks was previously barred by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from his appointment as ranking member of the Select Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Lofgren <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/11\/jan-6-committee-admits-it-isnt-even-trying-to-verify-bombshell-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the Democrats\u2019 probe did not question Cipollone about the remarks in a follow-up interview because it would have run counter to the probe\u2019s operating order. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe never call in witnesses to corroborate other witnesses or to give their reaction to other witnesses,\u201d Lofgren said. <\/p>\n<p>Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on Pelosi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/10\/the-j6-inquisition-is-an-obvious-soviet-style-show-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soviet-style<\/a> inquisition, agreed. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to bring somebody in and just sit around and ask them about what other people said, too,\u201d Kinzinger <a href=\"https:\/\/businessinsider.mx\/kinzinger-cipollone-didnt-contradict-what-anybody-said-jan-6-panel-2022-7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> on ABC\u2019s Sunday political talk show.<\/p>\n<p>At Tuesday\u2019s hearing, however, their colleagues did exactly that, after interviewing Cipollone for eight hours last week.<\/p>\n<p>In her lengthy opening monologue, Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., aired footage of a recent committee interview with Cipollone where lawmakers sat the former White House counsel down and asked him about what other people said. More specifically, Murphy played a clip of Cipollone corroborating what the committee was told about Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller\u2019s views on legal theories from attorney John Eastman. Eastman was the architect of legal maneuvers Trump ordered to delay certification of the electoral college. <\/p>\n<p>Below is the transcript of Tuesday\u2019s testimony from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/07\/12\/1111123258\/jan-6-committee-hearing-transcript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NPR<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>STEPHANIE MURPHY: Campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told us that Mr. Cipollone thought John Eastman\u2019s theories were nutty, something Mr. Cipollone wouldn\u2019t refute. [Begin videotape]\n<p>UNKNOWN: We\u2019ve received testimony from various people about this. One was Jason Miller, who was a campaign \u2014 said that the way it was communicated to me was that Pat Cipollone thought the idea was nutty, and at one point confronted Eastman, basically with the same sentiment, that \u2014<\/p>\n<p>PAT CIPOLLONE: I don\u2019t have a reason to contradict what he said. [End videotape]\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, the committee found it perfectly appropriate to ask Cipollone to corroborate what other witnesses said.
