Michelle Lujan Grisham reportedly used taxpayer dollars to fund personal expenditures <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/26\/new-mexico-gov-michelle-lujan-grisham-used-taxpayer-dollars-to-fund-mansion-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">again<\/a>, this time paying for a baby shower, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/12\/exclusive-new-mexico-gov-michelle-lujan-grisham-uses-taxpayer-funds-for-baby-shower-decorations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to Breitbart News on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Grisham spent $112.70 from the state discretionary fund at a Party City in Santa Fe purchasing pink baby shower decorations from pacifier charms to plastic cups. When confronted about the purchases from January 2020, video footage from Breitbart News shows the governor denied them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t use state funds to pay for a baby shower. Maybe you should do your facts better,\u201d Grisham admonished an anonymous cameraman. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNope, none,\u201d she added, as she briskly walked off scene. <\/p>\n<p>Breitbart, however, published two receipts detailing the purchases, including one for $68.91 and another for $43.79. A spokeswoman for the governor told the publication the receipt for $43.79 was \u201cfully reimbursed\u201d and that \u201cno state funds ultimately went to this expense.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the spokeswoman did not respond about the video or the other recipient for $68.91,\u201d Breitbart reported.<\/p>\n<p>Grisham\u2019s office did not immediately respond to The Federalist\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>State discretionary funds spent on a baby shower are not the only time the governor has faced accusations of improper use. <\/p>\n<p>In May, the Santa Fe New Mexican <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/26\/new-mexico-gov-michelle-lujan-grisham-used-taxpayer-dollars-to-fund-mansion-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> Grisham used the fund to pay for a mansion party the governor hosted last fall. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDocuments obtained under a public records request show New Mexicans for Michelle, the governor\u2019s campaign committee, issued the state a $1,837 check in December to pay for expenses stemming from a Democratic Governors Association party hosted by Lujan Grisham in Santa Fe,\u201d the paper reported. \u201cThe reimbursement appeared in the governor\u2019s campaign finance reports as a \u2018campaign event.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Grisham served as chair of the DGA.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, local reporters with KOB4 also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kob.com\/archive\/4-investigates-review-of-expenses-reveals-governor-spending-most-of-her-discretionary-fund-on-groceries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailed<\/a> purchases from the discretionary fund on high-priced groceries for the governor\u2019s mansion including tuna steaks, Wagyu beef, top sirloin, and hundreds more on alcohol. The governor\u2019s spending spree averaged more than $1,000 a month over a timeframe when New Mexicans were discouraged from going out or hosting functions by Grisham\u2019s emergency health orders, according to KOB4. <\/p>\n<p>Grisham is seen as a top target among Democrat incumbents by the Republican Governors Association this fall. Last month, Republicans nominated former New Mexico meteorologist Mark Ronchetti to unseat her in November. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
