The panel said the newly formulated vaccines are needed because new subvariants of the Omicron strain appear to be able to bypass antibodies delivered via previous vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>That would mean Americans could be urged to take a fourth shot, with fifth shots for the immunocompromised and people over 50 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as a new COVID wave is starting in New York City, and a top epidemiologist there <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-doc-new-covid-19-wave-starting-worst-version-of-omicron\">says<\/a> it\u2019s from one of the stronger subvariants of Omicron.<\/p>\n<p>SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID, has been morphing to stay alive \u2014 and there are now at least 11 variants and subvariants, <a href=\"https:\/\/disasterphilanthropy.org\/disasters\/covid-19-coronavirus\/?gclid=CjwKCAjwiJqWBhBdEiwAtESPaNf0ZqeKZWrJoH0C64R-UaUTlCl2rTKruA5CbuOYAsNJaXlfu0RPSxoC2soQAvD_BwE\">according<\/a> to one health site.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top immunologist in the U.S., acknowledged on Tuesday that vaccines against COVID \u201cdon\u2019t protect overly well\u201d from infection but said they are still necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-81-tests-positive-for-covid-and-is-experiencing-symptoms\">got the virus<\/a> despite being vaccinated and thrice boosted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/fauci-admits-covid-19-vaccines-protect-overly-well-infection\">told<\/a> Fox News that the jabs are still important because they can keep people from getting severely ill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that\u2019s clear from the data [is] that even though vaccines \u2014 because of the high degree of transmissibility of this virus \u2014 don\u2019t protect overly well, as it were, against infection, they protect quite well against severe disease leading to hospitalization and death,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I believe that\u2019s the reason \u2026 why at my age, being vaccinated and boosted, even though it didn\u2019t protect me against infection, I feel confident that it made a major role in protecting me from progressing to severe disease,\u201d he also said. \u201cThat\u2019s very likely why I had a relatively mild course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Curl has covered politics for 35 years, including 12 years as White House correspondent for a national newspaper.
