Jamie Raskin, D-M.d., led the questioning of two repentant rioters who illegally entered the Capitol. Just five years ago, Raskin spearheaded efforts to overturn the 2016 election results as one of his first actions in Congress, objecting to the certification over made-up narratives of Trump-Russia collusion.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of Tuesday\u2019s hearing, lawmakers sought to paint former President Donald Trump as guilty of coordinating an assault on the Capitol, which began well before he had finished his speech at the White House. At one point, the panel featured an unsent tweet from the president urging supporters to \u201cMarch to the Capitol,\u201d as incriminating evidence. The post loses its shock value, however, when one acknowledges that Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/01\/12\/no-donald-trump-did-not-incite-an-insurrection\/\">said plainly<\/a> to those gathered at the Ellipse to head toward the Capitol and protest \u201cpeacefully.\u201d Quite the bombshell. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"FxR0xW9v4vtY7SbCAHoqLpKmTodJV8peZisis1AnB7JEYfHGqwt9TUrFCla2X5OcE5jNLIwBaS6gruXKVj6Pz\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jan. 6 cmte showing a drafted, unsent Trump tweet promoting his address at the Ellipse and a subsequent \u201cMarch to the Capitol\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AOocxQc0hW\">pic.twitter.com\/AOocxQc0hW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mica Soellner (@MicaSoellnerDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MicaSoellnerDC\/status\/1546929539862990848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 12, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>For all its redundancy in its desperate attempt to smear political dissidents as violent \u201cinsurrectionists\u201d ahead of the fall midterms, the Jan. 6 Committee\u2019s latest hearing offered the most information yet about the telegraphing and public planning in the run-up to the Capitol riot. The proceedings, on the other hand, came complete not with testimony from senior officials in charge of Capitol security, but instead from an anonymous Twitter employee and former D.C. Chief of Homeland Security and Intelligence Donell Harvin.<\/p>\n<p>In a pre-recorded clip played during the hearing, Harvin told lawmakers his division received information \u201csuggesting that some very, very violent individuals were organizing to come to D.C. and not only were they organizing to come to D.C., but these groups, these nonaligned groups, were aligning. All the red flags went up at that point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have armed militia collaborating with white supremacy groups collaborating with conspiracy theory groups online all towards a common goal, you start seeing what we call in terrorism, \u2018a blended ideology,&#8217;\u201d Harvin added. \u201cAnd that\u2019s a very, very bad sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harvin said groups went beyond casual chatter and began coordinating specifics.<\/p>\n<p>The committee\u2019s anonymous Twitter employee, meanwhile, testified that the company was concerned about the potential for violence on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that I slept that night [Jan. 5, 2021] to be honest with you,\u201d the employee said. \u201cI was on pins and needles, because again, for months, I had been begging and anticipating and attempting to raise the reality that, if we made no intervention into what I saw occurring, people were going to die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/plans-to-storm-the-capitol-circulated-on-social-media-2021-1\">fostered<\/a> the same type of user riot planning that Silicon Valley tech giants cited to justify their <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/01\/10\/big-tech-oligarchs-collude-to-ban-parler-from-internet-and-phones\/\">collective purge<\/a> of rival app Parler from their online services shortly after the riot. <\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s testimony raised more questions than answers and reinforced <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/09\/5-questions-that-must-answered-before-the-j6-committee-begins-its-theatrical-production\/\">existing questions<\/a> about the Capitol security failures under the leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who six times <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/16\/nancy-pelosi-owns-january-6\/\">turned down<\/a> requests for the deployment of the National Guard, according to former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. <\/p>\n<p>Why didn\u2019t Pelosi\u2019s House Sergeant at Arms approve requests for National Guard assistance? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/interactive\/2021\/warnings-jan-6-insurrection\/\">According<\/a> to The Washington Post, \u201cHarvin\u2019s team set up a call with analysts at the Capitol Police.\u201d Why did the U.S. Capitol Police Intelligence Unit \u201cnot warn its officers or law enforcement partners of the gravity of the threat\u201d as outlined by a Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rules.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Jan%206%20HSGAC%20Rules%20Report.pdf\">report<\/a> last summer? Why didn\u2019t the Jan. 6 Committee ask Harvin about the Capitol Police\u2019s failure to heed his warnings? And why is the committee soliciting testimony from former D.C. government employees instead of the Capitol Police Intelligence Unit? We all know the answer to the last two.<\/p>\n<p>Devoid of opposition, the committee is operating for the sole purpose of expunging its political enemies from public life, and that means doing everything in its power to present a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/06\/one-year-ago-today-a-new-hoax-was-born\/\">curated narrative<\/a>. Panel member Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/11\/jan-6-committee-admits-it-isnt-even-trying-to-verify-bombshell-claims\/\">admitted<\/a> that much on CNN on Sunday when she said on national television that the committee was uninterested in corroborating blockbuster claims left unverified at best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe never call in witnesses to corroborate other witnesses or to give their reaction to other witnesses,\u201d Lofgren said. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
