In the aftermath of the incident, her daughter stopped drawing entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I talked to my daughter \u2014 I think she said it was so sad. And I said, \u2018Well, what did the principal say to you?\u2019 and [she said] \u2018I can\u2019t draw pictures anymore. And I can\u2019t write those words,\u2019\u201d Chelsea Boyle, whose daughter attended Viejo Elementary School in Mission Viejo, told Kira Davis of <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/kiradavis\/2022\/07\/11\/exclusive-ca-first-grader-disciplined-harassed-by-school-officials-for-writing-any-lives-matter-on-blm-drawing-n589791\">RedState<\/a> in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n<p>Boyle\u2019s first-grade daughter, who is white, drew a picture to represent her friends, who were racially mixed. The picture wound up going home with one of the young girl\u2019s friends. Boyle told Davis that the parents of the friend informed the school that they found the picture offensive, prompting Viejo Elementary School principal Jesus Becerra to allegedly query Boyle\u2019s daughter, followed by a required public apology from the young girl on the playground to her classmates and teachers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Boyle\u2019s daughter was barred from recess, instead reportedly forced to sit on a bench and watch the other children play.<\/p>\n<p>Boyle, who has spent hundreds of hours volunteering to help the school, stated that she only found out about the issue and the punishment in March, 2022, from a mutual friend of hers and the offended family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy immediate reaction is just\u2026I feel like I got hit by a bus, but I didn\u2019t understand it,\u201d she told Davis. \u201cAnd I thought, \u2018Oh, you know, my daughter has just been discriminated against.\u2019 And I didn\u2019t even want to contact a lawyer, but I just didn\u2019t know what had happened to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy children see color as a color, as a description,\u201d she continued. \u201cI am trying to raise them the way the world should be, not the way it is. That\u2019s how I\u2019m trying to make my personal change. Her best friend is brown \u2014 not black, but brown \u2014 and she didn\u2019t understand why\u00a0<em>she<\/em>\u00a0didn\u2019t matter, why\u00a0<em>her friend<\/em>\u00a0didn\u2019t matter. She has another friend that is Japanese; she doesn\u2019t understand.:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was something she came up on her own,\u201d Boyle said sadly. \u201cShe just didn\u2019t understand it. It was completely innocent, and that broke my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boyle only wanted an apology to her, her daughter, and even the offended family, but her lawyer, Alexander Haberbush of the LexRex Institute, said the powers-that-be claimed her story was false.<\/p>\n<p>Haberbush told Davis, \u201cIt\u2019s a compelled speech issue; obviously compelled speech is one of the toughest tests that they have to meet \u2026 We believe that there is no way that they can meet that standard and we believe this is an egregious deprivation of her rights and that Chelsea should be vindicated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope when <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/ep-183-outrageous-ca-first-grader-disciplined-for-offensive\/id1475358928?i=1000569507704\">this podcast<\/a> comes out that he sees, oh\u2026she\u2019s not dropping it,\u201d Haberbush said of Becerra. \u201cI\u2019m serious. I don\u2019t want this to happen to my kids.
