The state government is prohibiting collaboration with food trucks and the sale of food that is not pre-packaged, such as crackers or chips. The New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control said allowing microbreweries to operate in their current capacity gives them an unfair advantage over traditional restaurants. A spokesman for the division <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/new-jersey-breweries-alcoholic-beverage-control-rules-death-of-the-fox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the <em>Philly Voice<\/em> the updated regulations&#8221;strike a fair and appropriate balance&#8221; between restaurants and craft breweries, many of which are family-owned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are crippling the breweries by telling us we can&#8217;t have events, we can\u2019t do fun things,&#8221; one brewer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/nj-brewers-frothing-over-new-restrictions\/3291455\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> a Philadelphia NBC affiliate. &#8220;Why is anyone going to want to come here?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ed Gangi, owner of the Cricket Hill Brewery in Fairfield, told the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> his business &#8220;has been through a lot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The industry dealt with COVID for 2 plus years, currently inflation and supply cost increases, now the restrictions on our day-to-day business,&#8221; Gangi said. &#8220;It&#8217;s time for the N.J. legislature to modernize the brewery laws and allow us to survive. Without change, we&#8217;re going backward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some critics of the regulations have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/area\/western-newjersey\/many-nj-brewers-upset-about-states-new-rules-including-event-limits-no-food-trucks-vendors\/article_db1b708a-fd6d-11ec-8c06-e3640867b915.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> that they will stem economic growth in the Garden State. Following its strict lockdown policies, New Jersey already has a growth rate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/new_jersey\/new-jersey-economic-forecast-based-on-u-s-pattern-not-optimistic\/article_d1565df8-cd7a-11ec-ae1c-2bfe40ec21c1.html#:~:text=The%20state%20has%20the%20seventh,5.7%25%2C%E2%80%9D%20Smith%20said.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trailing<\/a> the nation at large.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Testa, a Republican state senator, introduced a bill last week to combat the new prohibitions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These breweries, like most small businesses, suffered under Governor Murphy\u2019s pandemic shutdowns and restrictions,&#8221; Testa said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senatenj.com\/index.php\/testa\/testa-new-legislation-needed-to-counter-nj-abcs-disastrous-and-destructive-new-license-conditions-limiting-brewery-activities\/57832\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a press release<\/a>. &#8220;To increase their burden with these new rules only adds insult to injury.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey\u2019s Democratic state government imposed new restrictions on breweries in July, banning happy hours and prohibiting them from serving mixed drinks.
