Rodney Davis of Illinois sent an email Tuesday morning to staffers inviting them to the upcoming sessions, dubbed \u201cinformational briefing(s).\u201d The email, obtained by the Daily Caller, is titled \u201cOversight Education Series: Investigations 101\u201d and the briefings are designed to ready House committee staffers for conducting oversight, a person familiar with the House Republicans\u2019 plans explained to the Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeader Kevin McCarthy and Ranking Member Rodney Davis would like to invite you to attend this informational briefing with Jon Skladany, Chief Oversight Counsel for the Committee on Financial Services, and Rachel Kaldahl, Republican Staff Director for the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight,\u201d the email reads. \u201cThis briefing will review the basics of performing effective oversight investigations and will highlight best practices to fulfill Congress\u2019s Constitutional oversight obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first \u201cInvestigations 101\u201d briefing is slated for the afternoon of July 22, according to the email. McCarthy will also host a second briefing Sept. 8 and a third Sept. 26.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP has a long list of oversight investigation topics should they take over the House post-midterms, the person familiar with Republicans\u2019 plans said.<\/p>\n<p>The investigations list, the Caller <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/02\/what-kevin-mccarthy-plans-investigate-speaker-republicans-win-house\/\">previously<\/a> reported, includes border policies implemented under the Biden administration, the origins of COVID-19, and the administration\u2019s reaction in testing, opening schools, and its dismissal of natural immunity. The person familiar with Republicans\u2019 plans also said the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/08\/08\/sally-donnelly-defense-department-jedi-cloud-amazon\/\">Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure<\/a> (JEDI) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/09\/04\/donald-trump-jeff-bezos-amazon-jedi-microsoft\/\">contract<\/a> at the Department of Defense (DOD) is on the investigations list.<\/p>\n<p>The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and Hunter Biden and his foreign business dealings are likely to be the subject of oversight <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/17\/conflicts-of-interest-biden-staffers-benefit-loan-forgiveness-republicans\/\">investigations<\/a>\u00a0as well, a Republican Oversight Committee aide added. REUTERS\/Kevin Lamarque<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Republican lawmakers have been outspoken on their plans to investigate some of these topics. McCarthy, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Kentucky Rep. James Comer wrote an op-ed <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/01\/well-probe-bidens-shady-business-dealings-when-gop-takes-house\/\">published<\/a> July 1 by the New York Post about investigating Hunter Biden. Comer and Jordan would play leading roles in any investigations of the Biden administration, since they are slated to head the Oversight and Judiciary committees, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have already <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/01\/well-probe-bidens-shady-business-dealings-when-gop-takes-house\/\">sent<\/a> \u201chundreds of preservation notices throughout different parts of the Biden Administration,\u201d the person familiar with the plans said. These preservation notices serve as a request that various documents relevant to a case be preserved, and some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hunter-biden-treasury-documents\/\">have been<\/a> publicly touted by the party in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just laying the groundwork now, we\u2019re going to keep sending our letters. I would imagine at some point \u2026 those letters are repackaged and we say, \u2018Hey, you did not respond to this request we sent you six months ago. We expect you to turn over these documents,&#8217;\u201d the Republican Oversight Committee aide told the Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just getting ready. We keep conducting oversight \u2026 We\u2019ll be ready to roll in January with several investigations already prepared to go,\u201d the aide added.<\/p>\n<p>Preservation letters and informational briefings appear to be just the start in the GOP\u2019s prep for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/fox-news-power-rankings-gop-expected-take-control-house\">anticipated<\/a> House takeover. A senior Republican aide told the Caller that preparation for the majority will likely \u201ckick into full gear once August recess rolls around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s expected that House Republicans will flood the Biden Administration with [more] preservation notices and requests that will help jump-start GOP investigations come 2023,\u201d this senior aide said, specifying that there will be \u201cway, way more\u201d preservation notices in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything will be on the table, including the possible impeachment of multiple cabinet officials,\u201d the senior aide continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/21\/jim-jordan-investigations-republicans-win-back-majority-house-judiciary-committee-lisa-boothe-podcast\/\">(RELATED: \u00a0Jim Jordan Lays Out The Investigations Americans Might See If Republicans Win Back The Majority)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Attorney General Merrick Garland are two cabinet officials that Republicans are honing in on for impeachment, according to the senior aide.<\/p>\n<p>Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/04\/26\/house-gop-impeachment-plot-mayorkas\">reported<\/a> in April on the initial plan to impeach Mayorkas, noting at the time that \u201cmany committee members\u201d support the move. Meanwhile, Jordan has not publicly ruled out trying to impeach Mayorkas, The Washington Free Beacon <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/republicans-weigh-garland-impeachment-as-biden-doj-drags-feet-on-extremist-abortion-protesters\/\">reported<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019ll be a decision that will be made by the entire conference,\u201d Jordan told the Free Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>As Republicans lay the groundwork for a flood of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/03\/house-oversight-doj-scotus-leak-abortion-roe-wade\/\">investigations<\/a>, the Biden administration is also reportedly busy prepping their defense, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/pLuaG#selection-647.145-647.264\">article<\/a> published by The Washington Post in April. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenior officials have begun strategizing on how various White House departments, especially the counsel\u2019s office, may be restructured to respond to an onslaught of investigative requests if Democrats lose control of the House or the Senate in November\u2019s midterm elections, as many in both parties expect,\u201d The Washington Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has also brought on new staffers recently in the hopes that they\u2019ll aid in responding to the various GOP probes, according to The Washington Post.
