Wade<\/em>. A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartland.org\/news-opinion\/news\/heartlandrasmussen-poll-majority-of-democrats-would-abolish-supreme-court-call-it-racist-and-sexist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> by Rasmussen Reports and the Heartland Institute of 1,025 likely voters between July 6-7 aimed to gauge American sentiment about the Supreme Court, and the results are alarming.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether the Supreme Court is a \u201cfundamentally racist institution,\u201d 56 percent of Democrats agreed, with 67 percent of Democrats saying they think the court is a \u201cfundamentally sexist institution.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>More than half of Democrats, 53 percent, say they want to \u201cabolish the current Supreme Court and establish a new, democratically elected Supreme Court with justices chosen by the American people directly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A whopping 39 percent of Democrats and 48 percent of younger voters (age 19-39) support empowering an international group that infamously gave <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/04\/07\/united-nations-discredits-itself-by-awarding-china-a-seat-on-its-human-rights-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">China<\/a> a seat on its Human Rights Council to overturn our court\u2019s decisions. Those respondents said they would strongly or somewhat favor a constitutional amendment \u201cthat would give the United Nations the authority to reverse U.S. Supreme Court decisions that U.N. members believe violate human rights.\u201d Meanwhile, only 33 percent of Democrats say they have a \u201cvery\u201d or \u201csomewhat favorable\u201d view of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Even before the Supreme Court\u2019s <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision, Americans\u2019 confidence in the high court had reached a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/08\/americans-trust-in-government-media-and-other-major-institutions-nosedives-to-record-low\/\">record low<\/a>, with the latest Gallup <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/394283\/confidence-institutions-down-average-new-low.aspx\">poll<\/a> showing the figure at a mere 25 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The court\u2019s consequential decisions this term \u2014 which reaffirmed the Second Amendment, protected unborn life, and curtailed the power of the administrative state, to name a few \u2014 paired with Democrats\u2019 desire to delegitimize the court could carry electoral implications in the coming midterms.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Elise McCue is an intern at The Federalist and student majoring in multimedia journalism and professional and technical writing.
