The modern-day Western premiered in 2018 with Oscar-winner Kevin Costner, who stars in his first-ever television series as Montana ranch owner\/family patriarch John Dutton. The show boasts a strong supporting cast including Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Wes Bentley.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/Yellowstone_S2_E4_7.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Kevin Costner as John Dutton in \u201cYellowstone,\u201d which was co-created by Taylor Sheridan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Costner saw the show\u2019s potential immediately. \u201cI saw that the dialogue had a fun, realistic approach to it,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/tv\/awards\/yellowstone-taylor-sheridan-western-1235235606\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he told Variety<\/a>. \u201cIt was raw. It was dysfunctional \u2026 it was set against the backdrop of mountains and rivers and valleys and people on horseback, which is very appealing \u2026 Whether people want to admit it or not, some people don\u2019t realize that that way of life is still alive. This meat doesn\u2019t get to our cities without somebody getting up early in the morning and late at night taking care of those animals in some way. It\u2019s a way of life still.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris McCarthy \u2014 President\/CEO, Paramount Media Networks &#038; MTV Entertainment Studios \u2014 saw a similar appeal. \u201cPeople think of Westerns as good guys and bad guys, and this is really such a different show,\u201d he told<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/taylor-sheridan-the-creative-cowboy-behind-yellowstone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> \u201cCBS Sunday Morning\u201d.<\/a> \u201cWhen you see the entire world, you get it. He mentally creates his own world in the TV series. He creates that world for himself. Sparked by Sheridan, Paramount Network has bucked the trend like a wild bronco.<\/p>\n<p>To date, \u201cYellowstone,\u201d despite all its success, has garnered only one Emmy nomination \u2014 in 2021, for Outstanding Production Design \u2014 but that is expected to change July 12 when nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards are announced.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/1883-prequel-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/1883-prequel-2.jpg\" alt=\"Tim McGraw as James Dutton in the \" Yellowstone \/><\/a><figcaption>Tim McGraw as James Dutton in the \u201cYellowstone\u201d prequel series \u201c1883.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Emerson Miller\/Paramount+<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYellowstone\u201d spawned its first prequel series, \u201c1883,\u201d which was also created by Sheridan. It premiered last year on <a href=\"http:\/\/paramountplus.qflm.net\/9WG5D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Paramount+<\/a>  with stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, John Dutton\u2019s 19th century forebears, and included cameos from Tom Hanks \u2014 Tom Hanks! \u2014 and Thornton. The series was popular <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/20\/yellowstone-prequel-review-1883-hits-all-the-right-notes\/\">and critically acclaimed<\/a>, but ended after its first season \u2026 for a reason. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to make a 10-hour movie, and that\u2019s what we did,\u201d Sheridan <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/02\/taylor-sheridan-1883-finale-interview-sam-elliott-faith-hill-tim-mcgraw-isabel-may-yellowstone-1234961106\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also coming down the \u201cYellowstone\u201d spinoff pipeline are \u201c1932\u201d \u2014 a prequel starring Oscar-winners Mirren and Ford about the Dutton family during Prohibition and the Great Depression \u2014 and \u201c6666,\u201d a present-day series set at the titular ranch (no cast members have\u00a0been announced yet; there are rumors it will film <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2022\/01\/22\/legendary-four-sixes-ranch-sold-to-yellowstone-producer-taylor-sheridan\/?gclid=CjwKCAjwq5-WBhB7EiwAl-HEkkAmO_4FHNa5cDJF2NvmkSks_1H0ocWN12JmggZ3yPmZgebCsUP3BBoCMlMQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at the Texas ranch Sheridan purchased in January<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think of any of these as spinoffs, but rather as complete stories that have common root,\u201d Sheridan told Deadline. \u201cMy goal with the next one would be that you could never have seen\u00a0\u20181883\u2019 or \u2018Yellowstone\u2019 and still have a fully realized experience as a viewer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and Season 5 of \u201cYellowstone\u201d premieres in November \u2014 leading into <em>another<\/em> Sheridan series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/sylvester-stallone-on-playing-a-gangster-in-tulsa-king-and-possible-yellowstone-cameo-exclusive#:~:text=K.%20on%20Wednesday.-,%22I%E2%80%99ve%20always%20wanted%20to%20play%20a%20gangster%20since...%C2%A0I%20basically%20started,two.%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20dark%20comedy%20but%20also%20it%20can%20get%20rough.%22,-READ%20MORE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cTulsa King,\u201d a Paramount+ mob drama starring Stallone as a New York mafioso banished to Oklahoma<\/a>. Loyalty is everything, and then the handshake means something. That\u2019s who he is. And as long as you operate in that world, it\u2019s great. And creatively, he blows my mind every single time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan is also behind the upcoming shows \u201cLioness,\u201d a drama based on a real CIA operation starring Zoe Saldana; \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/06\/taylor-sheridan-directing-david-oyelowo-bass-reeves-series-legendary-lawman-1235049836\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bass Reeves<\/a>,\u201d in which Oyelowo plays the titular legendary Wild West lawman and deputy US Marshal; and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/land-man-tv-show-cast-billy-bob-thornton-taylor-sheridan-paramount-plus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Land Man<\/a>,\u201d a West Texas-based oil-rig drama adapted from the podcast \u201cBoomtown\u201d and starring Thornton that\u2019s described as \u201can upstairs\/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it\u2019s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/sam-elliot-taylor-sheridan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/sam-elliot-taylor-sheridan.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Sheridan with \" 1883=\"1883\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Taylor Sheridan (right) with \u201c1883\u201d co-star Sam Elliott.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s ludicrous that I\u2019m working with these people,\u201d Sheridan told \u201cCBS Sunday Morning.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s fantastically insane.\u201d He attributes his success to being around the business long enough to recognize his strengths \u2014 and realizing he\u2019d gone as far as he could with his acting career. (He still acts occasionally, including a recurring role as horseman Travis Wheatley on \u201cYellowstone\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think stubbornness, a refusal to fail,\u201d he said. \u201cAn interesting thing about Hollywood is, if you let it, if you listen, it will tell you exactly what you\u2019re supposed to be doing \u2026 I have never seen anyone bang their head against the wall for 20 years and then make it. I\u2019ve never seen that. I\u2019ve seen it take eight years; I\u2019ve seen it take 10 years.
