With or without government, with or without any sort of societal structure whatsoever, human beings have the right to stay alive. This is inherent, God-given, unchangeable, and has existed and will continue to exist throughout all of human history. When a mortal threat presents itself, the right to fight back to preserve life &#8211; especially one\u2019s own &#8211; is the foundation for every other freedom we have. Without it, we are literally serfs existing at the mercy of evil forces around us that would do us harm.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Perhaps that is why normal, sane, clear-thinking people bristle when examples arise of government encroaching upon that fundamental right. When injustice happens to another, we know inherently that the same injustice could easily happen to us. So last week when Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg slapped second-degree murder charges on bodega worker Jose Alba for defending himself against a violent ex-con who jumped behind the counter and assaulted him, the outcry was immediate and powerful.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cJose Alba acted in self-defense,\u201d Republican New York Rep. Lee Zeldin <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepLeeZeldin\/status\/1545200589855932416&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2wYZeyt6zfj7gOL4L_OnVU\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepLeeZeldin\/status\/1545200589855932416\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cHe shouldn\u2019t be forced to spend a single minute behind bars at Rikers Island. This isn\u2019t justice. This is a disgrace. Alvin Bragg must be removed from office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cEveryone, like Jose Alba, should have the right to defend themselves against violent criminals when attacked. Period,\u201d YouTuber Steven Crowder <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/scrowder\/status\/1545209316457807872&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2gZ8U7jhudtPqvXoqiFMcG\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scrowder\/status\/1545209316457807872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asserted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cMy God, just when you think they can&#8217;t go lower,\u201d <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/bungarsargon\/status\/1545057334044438528&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1G-g7kOWye-s_uqAOF2KYY\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bungarsargon\/status\/1545057334044438528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon. \u201cA bodega owner who defended himself from an ex-con is in Rikers on $250K bail. It&#8217;s not enough to let career criminals loose\u2014if you don&#8217;t submit to their attacks, YOU will go to jail. The absolute depravity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIf the criminal who assaults who is a member of a favored group, you don\u2019t have the right to fight back, you may not defend yourself,\u201d Fox News host Tucker Carlson <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/SKMorefield\/status\/1545225674423779329&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1CdTQ1eRLcssxkVhzkR3mp\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SKMorefield\/status\/1545225674423779329\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opined<\/a>. \u201cYou must take whatever he gives you because thugs have more rights than you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There are many more examples where those came from. However, while I did spot the occasional random liberal decrying what\u2019s happening to Alba, most Twitter blue-checks outwardly speaking up for the embattled bodega employee are conservatives or centrists, not leftists. In a particularly egregious example, a blue-check called \u201cCHIKA\u201d <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/oranicuhh\/status\/1545098552728342528&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1Eb6ILZC1yunz9BlIn0qic\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oranicuhh\/status\/1545098552728342528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused<\/a> Alba of \u201cmurdering an unarmed black person.\u201d This is obviously the view of Bragg, a George Soros-funded leftist district attorney. It was the view of the overzealous Kenosha prosecutors who senselessly persecuted Kyle Rittenhouse. It\u2019s also based on the worldview of leftist leaders like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who recently <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/Robertopedia\/status\/1535383099147689984&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3EnoAhlzKpdqmOPy1ZJB5h\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Robertopedia\/status\/1535383099147689984\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declared<\/a>, \u201cYou can\u2019t use a gun for self-protection in Canada. It\u2019s not a right that you have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sadly, your chances of winding up in prison for defending yourself go up exponentially in places like Canada, Australia, and the U.K., where citizens long ago ceded their rights to a government unwilling and unable to defend them against law-breakers but more than willing and able to prosecute those who dare to defend themselves. Attorney and podcaster Eric Matheny <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricMMatheny\/status\/1545203693045301251&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0s-FmrSRAvWsBrP7qITwa4\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricMMatheny\/status\/1545203693045301251\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out<\/a> that Alba \u201cwouldn\u2019t be in jail if he lived in Florida\u201d because the state \u201crecognizes the right of self-defense when you\u2019re the victim of a violent felony.\u201d If there ever was an argument for living in a U.S. red state, this is among the strongest.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bragg, like other district attorneys of his ilk, routinely slaps violent offenders on the wrist even as he seeks to send a bodega worker to prison for decades for the \u2018crime\u2019 of defending himself. This is, of course, the very definition of anarcho-tyranny &#8211; in which violent criminals run wild, mostly unchecked, while ordinary citizens have the book thrown at them for fighting back. It also has its roots in Bolshevik thought. Consider this chilling quote from Volume 2 of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn\u2019s \u201cThe Gulag Archipelago.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the Criminal Code of 1926 there was a most stupid Article 139 \u2013 \u201con the limits of necessary self-defense\u201d \u2014according to which you had the right to unsheath your knife only after the criminal\u2019s knife was hovering over you. And you could stab him only after he had stabbed you. And otherwise you would be the one put on trial. (And there was no article in our legislation saying that the greater criminal was the one who attacked someone weaker than himself.) This fear of exceeding the measure of necessary self-defense lead to total spinelessness as a national characteristic. A hoodlum once began to beat up the Red Army man Aleksandr Zakharov outside a club. Zakharov took out a folding penknife and killed the hoodlum. And for this he got\u2026.ten years for plain murder! \u201cAnd what was I supposed to do?\u201d he asked, astonished. Prosecutor Artsishevsky replied: \u201cYou should have fled!\u201d So tell me, who creates hoodlums?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If you want to understand the motives and actions of today\u2019s leftists, you need only study history, particularly that of Bolshevism and Communism in the 20th century. <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cernovich\/status\/1545154987986018309&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1657566147409000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3dGbbY3qJ07-Uj-XFNJpA1\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cernovich\/status\/1545154987986018309\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Writes<\/a> author and pundit Mike Cernovich: \u201cJose Alba has been wrongfully imprisoned because he\u2019s seen as a kulak. He owns a bodega. This makes him an appropriate enemy of neo-Bolsheviks. Pay attention to the Holodomor. Soros and his demonic DAs want to recreate that here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This &#8211; the persecution of the innocent and the veneration of violent criminals &#8211; is an evil that cannot be appeased or reasoned with.
