It does not fund political candidates or parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not engage in electoral politics or any activity that would require registration under the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995, and do not engage staff or contractors as \u2018lobbyists\u2019 as defined by the Act,\u201d it states on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.org\/transparency\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some sources have characterized the organization as left-leaning. In 2019, The Economist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/1843\/2019\/09\/06\/inside-aspen-the-mountain-retreat-for-the-liberal-elite\">described it<\/a> as \u201cthe mountain retreat for the liberal elite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data from Open Secrets show that individuals employed by or closely connected with the Aspen Institute have donated overwhelmingly to Democrats in recent election cycles.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2022 cycle, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/orgs\/aspen-institute\/recipients?id=D000044180\">98.26 percent<\/a> of the money that those individuals donated to federal candidates went to Democrats.
