He also noted that Ohio law would have allowed for an abortion in such a case.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonathanTurley\/status\/1546636535763722240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/07\/08\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-protecting-access-to-reproductive-health-care-services\/\">July 8 remarks<\/a>, Biden stated, \u201cWhat we\u2019re witnessing is a giant step backwards in much of our country.\u201d After citing 13 states implementing abortion bans\u00a0and twelve more states likely to follow, he continued, \u201c\u2026 in a number of these states, the laws are so extreme they have raised the threat of criminal penalties for doctors and healthcare providers.\u00a0 They\u2019re so extreme that many don\u2019t allow for exceptions, even for rape or incest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then he segued to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/news\/health\/2022\/07\/01\/indiana-abortion-law-roe-v-wade-overturned-travel\/7779936001\/\">July 1 story<\/a> from the Indianapolis Star which claimed Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist Caitlan Bernard had been alerted by an Ohio \u201cchild abuse doctor\u201d about the supposed 10-year-old girl. Biden proclaimed:<\/p>\n<p><em>This isn\u2019t some imagined horror.\u00a0 It\u2019s already happening.\u00a0 Just last week, it was reported that a 10-year-old girl was a rape victim in Ohio \u2014 10 years old \u2014 and she was forced to have to travel out of the state, to Indiana, to seek to terminate the\u00a0presnency\u00a0[pregnancy] and maybe save her life.\u00a0 That\u2019s \u2014 the last part is my judgment.\u00a0 Ten years old.\u00a0 Ten years old.\u00a0 Raped, six weeks pregnant.\u00a0 Already traumatized.\u00a0 Was forced to travel to another state.\u00a0 Imagine being that little girl.\u00a0 Just \u2014 I\u2019m serious \u2014 just imagine being that little girl.\u00a0 Ten years old.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/09\/one-source-story-about-10-year-old-an-abortion-goes-viral\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> noted that Bernard was the only source for the story, which went viral and was repeated around the world. The Post also reported that Ohio law would require a doctor to report any case of physical, sexual or emotional abuse or neglect of a child, whether proven or suspected, to the local child welfare or law enforcement agency.<\/p>\n<p>Ashe Schow of The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-repeats-story-of-10-year-old-allegedly-needing-an-abortion-that-no-one-has-been-able-to-verify\/\">reported on Saturday<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire reached out to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and a spokesperson noted that allegations of child abuse are not public record, \u201cincluding acknowledging whether an allegation has been made.\u201d The spokesperson also said that Ohio has a decentralized system, meaning each county administers their child services.
