One, that you should always be free from violence, harassment, and intimidation. And two, you\u2019re never going to be free from criticism or peaceful protest, people exercising their First Amendment rights,\u201d\u00a0Buttigieg, a former presidential candidate, said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d \u201cAnd that\u2019s what happened in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kavanaugh, a Trump appointee, was dining at Morton\u2019s Steakhouse in Washington on July 6 when protesters, tipped off that he was there, gathered outside.<\/p>\n<p>Some apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/white-house-responds-after-police-were-called-to-dc-restaurant-for-harassment-of-supreme-court-justice_4586250.html\">tried to enter the area<\/a> where the justice was, but fled before police officers arrived.<\/p>\n<p>No arrests were made.<\/p>\n<p>Morton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook\/2022\/07\/08\/schumer-ups-pressure-on-mcconnell-in-usica-reconciliation-dance-00044652\">denounced<\/a> what happened, saying Kavanaugh and other patrons \u201cwere unduly harassed by unruly protestors while eating dinner\u201d and that the protesters \u201ctrample[d] the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court and Kavanaugh have not commented on what happened.<\/p>\n<p>Chasten Buttigieg, Buttigieg\u2019s husband, was among those weighing in after the events transpired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSounds like he just wanted some privacy to make his own dining decisions,\u201d he wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg defended the post, and the protesters, saying they are upset because Kavanaugh and other justices struck down Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny public figure should always, always be free from violence, intimidation and harassment but should never be free from criticism or people exercising their First Amendment rights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he\u2019d feel comfortable with protesters doing to him what they did to Kavanaugh, he added: \u201cProtesting peacefully outside in a public space\u2014sure.
