Version: 4.0.47--><aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>For more than two years we have lived through a pandemic that no one \u2014 no one who doesn\u2019t fall for Communist Chinese propaganda anyway \u2014 doubts came from China.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/08\/02\/the-world-needs-answers-when-will-the-dems-back-a-bipartisan-probe-into-the-wuhan-lab-leak-theory\/\">consensus now<\/a>\u00a0is that COVID came from the Wuhan lab, something I\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/02\/22\/dont-buy-chinas-story-the-coronavirus-may-have-leaked-from-a-lab\/\">wrote about<\/a>\u00a0in these pages at the outset of the outbreak.\u00a0In recent months, many of those who had earlier parroted Beijing\u2019s line about COVID coming from a bat cave, including China\u2019s man at the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/who-and-lancet-commission-chiefs-come-out-in-support-of-lab-leak-theory_4548666.html?est=vNGlUSNkyTfqh2NEp0O%2BZKzPXcAxr6kvF1QiTLgNllN2U%2BXWmDZPmixDtqI%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">come over<\/a>\u00a0to my point of view.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, there is mounting evidence that the coronavirus was developed as part of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/03\/16\/more-reason-to-think-beijings-to-blame-for-the-pandemic\/\">China\u2019s bioweapons program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, leaving all this aside, there is no doubt on one key point.\u00a0The Chinese Communist Party has a long history of covering up epidemics within China, and then carelessly \u2014 or deliberately \u2014 allowing them to spread around the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fall of 1957 saw an outbreak of what came to be known as the Asian flu.\u00a0It was first reported in the cities of Singapore and Hong Kong, but this new and deadly influenza soon went global.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/wuhan-lab.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Chinese researcher Dr. Shi Zhengli seen working in the Wuhan lab, which many researchers now believe was the origin of the coronavirus that swept the world in 2020.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>China played no role in its creation \u2014 in this case the offending virus truly did have a natural origin \u2014 but it certainly did play a role in its spread.\u00a0The new flu had arisen in the interior province of Guizhou in early 1957, and had spread throughout China in the months following.\u00a0But even as tens of thousands of Chinese lay dying, the epidemic was kept hidden from view by\u00a0the Communist authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When infected travelers from China later carried it to Hong Kong and Singapore, the World Health Organization and other public health authorities were caught flatfooted.\u00a0Thanks to Beijing\u2019s perfidy, quarantines and vaccines came too late.\u00a0Before the Asian flu had run its two-year course, it had killed well over a million people.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/asian-flu-outbreak.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/asian-flu-outbreak.jpg\" alt=\"A girl drinks broth in a Japanese hospital during the 1957 Asian flu outbreak, which first emerged in China and later spread throughout Asia. Like with COVID, Chinese officials were accused of covering up its earliest cases. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The same scenario played out again 10 years later.\u00a0In 1968, an unknown influenza had quickly spread throughout the world.\u00a0It came to be known as the Hong Kong flu, infuriating that city\u2019s Chamber of Commerce, the members of which knew quite well that an epidemic was raging in Mainland China just across the border.\u00a0Once again, the Communist authorities had refused to alert the world, and another million people died.<\/p>\n<p>China continued to play <em><em>\u201c<\/em><\/em>hide the virus\u201d when the SARS epidemic broke out in 2002.\u00a0Patient Zero was a snake seller in China\u2019s Guangdong province who came down with the disease on Nov. 16, 2002. Once again, Communist authorities refused to alert the world about its spread, and another million people died.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">The Asahi Shimbun via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sound familiar?<\/p>\n<p>They did not inform the WHO about the outbreak until February 2003, three months later, and only after Canadian intelligence had already detected and publicly reported on a \u201cflu outbreak\u201d in progress in China.<\/p>\n<p>SARS \u2014 short for <em><em>\u201c<\/em><\/em>severe acute respiratory syndrome\u201d \u2014 was a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus.\u00a0It had the highest case fatality rate of any influenza since the Spanish flu. As a result of its early detection and relatively low transmissibility, by the time the SARS epidemic ended in June of 2003, there had been a total of only 8,469 cases reported.<\/p>\n<p>But the lethality of SARS impressed China\u2019s bioweapons experts, and they began discussing how to genetically engineer a SARS-like coronavirus that could easily be transmitted from person to person.\u00a0The kind where a single sneeze can infect an entire roomful of people.<\/p>\n<p>In late 2017, a Chinese researcher named Dr. Shi Zhengli, with the help of British zoologist Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance, a beneficiary of US government funding and an ally of Dr. Anthony Fauci, traced the original SARS virus back through an intermediary host to the original carriers: the cave-dwelling horseshoe bats of Yunnan province.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/wuhan-coronavirus-screenings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/wuhan-coronavirus-screenings.jpg\" alt=\"As COVID continues to cause lockdowns throughout China, it is unlikely that Communist officials have learned the lessons of past plagues.\" class=\"wp-image-22956464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/wuhan-coronavirus-screenings.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/wuhan-coronavirus-screenings.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/wuhan-coronavirus-screenings.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=512 512w\" \/><\/a><figcaption>As COVID continues to cause lockdowns throughout China, it is unlikely that Communist officials have learned the lessons of past plagues. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere in China, perhaps even at the Wuhan Institute of Virology itself, they are even now genetically engineering new \u201cunrestricted bioweapons.\u201d Anyone who thinks China\u2019s biotechnology labs are going to be used for noble scientific purposes is committing the same fatal error that Dr. Fauci did.<\/p>\n<p>Another plague \u2014 again from China \u2014 is almost certain to hit us in our lifetimes. Indeed, the very bioweapon that will be used may already be lurking in a test tube somewhere.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Steven W.
