City bodega was charged with killing a man who attacked him behind the counter,\u201d a local NBC news station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/murder-or-self-defense-new-video-shows-nyc-bodega-worker-stab-man-inside-nyc-shop\/3765929\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">reports<\/span><\/a>. \u201cJose Alba remained quiet Thursday as he returned home after being released on bail following almost a week at Rikers Island. The woman\u2019s boyfriend got very upset and then went around and entered the Alba\u2019s space behind the register\u2014cornering him. The man then shoved Alba hard, slamming him into the corner and then loomed over him. Backed against a wall\u2014literally\u2014Alba then retrieved a knife he presumably kept there for self-protection and stabbed his attacker multiple times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">From all the available facts, it\u2019s clearly a case of self-defense. So why on earth are New York prosecutors pursing murder charges?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This shouldn\u2019t be a political or partisan issue\u2014it\u2019s simply common sense. Even New York City mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has spoken out in Alba\u2019s defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cMy heart goes out for this hard-working, honest New Yorker that was doing his job in his place of business, where a person came in and went behind the counter and attacked him,\u201d Adams <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/07\/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-supports-bodega-worker-jose-alba\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span class=\"s1\">said<\/span><\/a>. The mayor did note that he can and will not directly interfere with the District Attorney\u2019s decision to prosecute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">What happened here is deeply upsetting, and any loss of human life is always regrettable.
