This led to Ella\u2019s placement on the sex offender list. Ella, who was nearly 200 pounds heavier than the victim, also bullied the victim on Facebook after the assault.<\/p>\n<p>The teenage boy experienced further \u201cvictimization and traumatization\u201d due to Ella\u2019s additional bullying, court documents demonstrated, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/health-wisconsin-supreme-court-government-and-politics-b5e9293fc502cb9679d7436247fc7bae\">according to the Associated Press<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ella\u2019s lawyers claimed that the name change denial constituted \u201ccruel and unusual punishment\u201d and that it was a violation of the First Amendment\u2019s protection of free speech. The court\u2019s four conservative leaning justices, however, were unpersuaded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsistent with well established precedent, we hold Ella\u2019s placement on the sex offender registry is not a \u2018punishment\u2019 under the Eighth Amendment,\u201d Justice Rebecca Bradley said in her majority decision.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if it were, sex offender registration is neither cruel nor unusual.
