All four members of the Oakley Elementary School District Board of Trustees resigned after mocking parents in what they thought was a private meeting.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1) When officials at the Oakley Union Elem. School district thought they were meeting privately, they used profanity to insult &amp; threaten parents upset by the district&#8217;s prolonged school closures.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s when they realized their mtg was being broadcast to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Uh, oh.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OXbHWq9FMy\">pic.twitter.com\/OXbHWq9FMy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bigad Shaban (@BigadShaban) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BigadShaban\/status\/1362547341560061954?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Board members, including board president Lisa Brizendine, stepped down Friday after they were caught complaining about parents who wanted their kids to return to in-person learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre we alone?\u201d former board member Kim Beede questioned on the virtual meeting. \u201cF\u2014. If you\u2019re gonna call me out I\u2019m gonna f\u2014 you up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"School board in California makes hot mic comments about parents\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sFS6EdoLJAM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the school\u2019s superintendent Greg Hetrick said no excuses would be made for what occurred and the comments were not in line with what the school stands for. The video quickly circled around social media and sparked outrage, prompting parents to start an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/registrar-of-voters-contra-costa-county-recall-oakley-union-elementary-school-district-board?use_react=false\">online petition<\/a> that called for members to step down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents in this area have been pretty vocal about the lack of communication and the lack of preparation to have our kids go back to school,\u201d Oakley Elementry School parent Rebecca Mackowiak said. \u201cAnd to hear that, it makes you understand why there\u2019s no preparation and communication because they\u2019re not taking us seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials appointed two interim Oakley School District board members while a third member is pending.
