That company, which is commonly known as Sinopec, is wholly owned by the Chinese government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinopec is also tied to Hunter Biden, whose private equity firm, BHR Partners, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/how-chinese-companies-linked-to-hunter-biden-could-bail-out-putin\/\">bought<\/a> a $1.7 billion stake in the company seven years ago. <\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden\u2019s lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/20\/world\/hunter-biden-china-cobalt.html\">told<\/a> the New York Times in November that the president\u2019s son, \u201cno longer holds any interest, directly or indirectly, in either BHR or Skaneateles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/hunter-biden-still-listed-as-part-owner-of-chinese-firm-despite-divestment-claim\">According<\/a> to the Washington Examiner, however, Hunter Biden remained listed as a part-owner of the firm as late as March. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness records from China\u2019s National Credit Information Publicity System accessed Tuesday continue to identify Skaneateles as a 10% owner in BHR, and Washington, D.C., business records continue to list Biden as the only beneficial owner of Skaneateles,\u201d the paper reported. \u201cThe White House has routinely deflected questions about Biden\u2019s business dealings to his attorneys, who have remained largely mum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s possible that China\u2019s business registry hasn\u2019t yet been updated to reflect a potential transfer or sale of Skaneateles\u2019s 10% stake in BHR to another party,\u201d the Examiner added. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Biden\u2019s Energy Department has refused compliance with requests under the Freedom of Information Act probing the administration\u2019s improper use of the nation\u2019s strategic oil reserves maintained for emergencies. Last week, the Functional Government Initiative, a nonprofit government watchdog, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/07\/watchdog-sues-energy-department-to-learn-if-bidens-oil-releases-are-politically-motivated\/\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> to compel records concerning administration officials\u2019 decision to tap the oil reserves in the absence of a sudden disruption in supply such as a hurricane or cyberattack. <\/p>\n<p>By the end of Biden\u2019s latest release from the emergency stockpile, the president will have depleted 260 million barrels from the nation\u2019s reserves. In May, the Department of Energy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/doe-announces-long-term-buyback-plan-ensuring-continued-availability-strategic-petroleum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0efforts to replenish only 60 million barrels of what\u2019s been released, despite an authorized storage capacity of 714 million barrels. The Energy Information Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/PET_STOC_WSTK_A_EPC0_SAS_MBBL_W.htm\">reported<\/a> that just more than 492,000 barrels remained in storage on July 1, exactly one month into the six-month hurricane season.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
