Tucked in that huge bill is a pilot program that will require the Navy to offer \u201cplant-based protein options at forward operating bases for consumption by members of the Navy.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-e7684\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 iWv3d _1FoOD _3M0Fe aujbK iWv3d public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><span>The language, found in <a data-hook=\"linkViewer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/7900\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\"><span><u class=\"_3zM-5\">Section 222 of the bill<\/u><\/span><\/a>, says the Navy must pick two forward operating bases where \u201clivestock-based protein options may be costly to obtain or store.\u201d It suggests bases in Guam and Japan as examples.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-1h81s\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 iWv3d _1FoOD _3M0Fe aujbK iWv3d public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><span>The pilot program would last three years, and the Navy would have to file a report to Congress later on how many Navy Sailors choose plant-based proteins, whether the program was cost-effective, and ideas to \u201cincrease plant-based protein options\u201d at other naval facilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"viewer-7of8\" class=\"_2vd5k JP7h-\"><a class=\"_3mt3E _3CWa- Dv9jC Dv9jC\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/JoinAUSN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><\/p>\n<div data-hook=\"imageViewer\" class=\"_2kEVY\">\n<div class=\"_3WJnn _2Ybje\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-pin-url=\"https:\/\/www.ausn.org\/post\/will-navy-sailors-be-forced-to-eat-plant-based-proteins\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/6f17c9_b909e085cf32477bb5bdc1d3f6c7b0cf~mv2.png\/v1\/fit\/w_1000%2Ch_441%2Cal_c,enc_auto\/file.png\" class=\"OzAYt _3ii3f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/6f17c9_b909e085cf32477bb5bdc1d3f6c7b0cf~mv2.png\/v1\/fit\/w_300,h_300,al_c,q_5,enc_auto\/file.png\" width=\"1652\" height=\"441\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<p id=\"viewer-c4vu3\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 iWv3d _1FoOD _3M0Fe aujbK iWv3d public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><span>There\u2019s a chance the language may not survive in the House. The bill will first be considered by the House Rules Committee, which will determine which amendments to the legislation might be considered on the House floor.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-76nns\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 iWv3d _1FoOD _3M0Fe aujbK iWv3d public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><span>Rep.
