Peterson is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-streaming-service-dailywire-launches-signs-jordan-peterson-in-multi-year-deal\">joining<\/a> DailyWire+, and members will have access to his new and previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/subscribe-plus-jordan-peterson\">content<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From packed arenas to bestselling books and popular podcasts, Dr. Jordan Peterson has<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-rise-of-jordan-peterson\"> left his mark<\/a> on Western civilization. His meteoric rise came in large part due to his calm demeanor during heated debates, his matter-of-fact wisdom often leaving his opponents searching for words.<\/p>\n<p>And so, here are five times Dr. Peterson left his opponents speechless.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Pseudo-Moralistic Stances On Large-Scale Social Issues\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on the Australian show Q+A, Peterson was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BahXcou3R_k\">pressed<\/a> by an audience member on his philosophy of personal responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have very simple answers to complex questions\u2026 you talk about individual responsibility over things it\u2019s impossible for individuals to actually have responsibility over\u2026 So I want to know: what is your answer to young people for some of the really big problems facing humanity, like the climate catastrophe, like economic crisis, like the precarious job market?\u201d she asked. \u201cMost of us are never going to be able to afford to have all of these assets to have responsibility over\u2026 so what is your advice beyond benial comments like \u2018clean your room\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s rather difficult to answer a question that ends with \u2018your comments are benial\u2019 politely,\u201d Peterson responded, inviting the audience member to rephrase her question while giving her a death stare. After she repeated her query, Peterson said that the issues were \u201cnot as far out\u201d of her control as she thought.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFundamentally, I\u2019m a psychologist,\u201d he explained. \u201cMy experience has been that people can do a tremendous amount of good for themselves and for the people who are immediately around them by looking to their own inadequacies and their own flaws\u2026 and starting to build themselves up as more powerful individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peterson added that once people prove competency in their careers and other facets of their lives, they can be trusted as community leaders. \u201cI\u2019m not suggesting in the least, and have never suggested, that there is no domain for social action,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m suggesting that people who don\u2019t have their own houses in order should be very careful before they go about reorganizing the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peterson called the woman\u2019s bluff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think generally people have things that are more within their personal purview that are more difficult to deal with,\u201d he said, \u201cand that generally, the way they avoid them is by adopting pseudo-moralistic stances on large-scale social issues so that they look good to their friends and their neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ha, Gotcha\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channel4.com\/news\/about\">Channel 4<\/a> presenter Cathy Newman, Peterson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54\">dismantled<\/a> the English journalist\u2019s line of attack and prompted her to check her premises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy should your right to freedom of speech trump a trans person\u2019s right not to be offended?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause in order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive,\u201d Peterson noted before flipping the question back on Newman. \u201cI mean, look at the conversation we\u2019re having right now. You\u2019re certainly willing to risk offending me in the pursuit of truth. Why should you have the right to do that? It\u2019s been rather uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re doing what you should do,\u201d Peterson added, \u201cwhich is digging a bit to see what the hell is going on. And that is what you should do \u2014 you\u2019re exercising your freedom of speech to certainly risk offending me, and that\u2019s fine. More power to you, as far as I\u2019m concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newman began to answer but was left speechless. Peterson concluded, \u201cHa, gotcha.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Where\u2019s The Dominance Here, Precisely?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Peterson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yZYQpge1W5s&#038;t=3847s\">sparred<\/a> with British GQ journalist Helen Lewis over the nature of so-called patriarchy.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis defined \u201cpatriarchy\u201d as \u201ca system of male dominance of society,\u201d noting that men control the majority of wealth and power. Peterson retorted that only a small proportion of men could be characterized in such a manner, and that her argument overlooks many who instead find themselves disaffected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost people in prison are men. Most people who are on the street are men. Most victims of violent crime are men. Most people who commit suicide are men. Most people who die in wars are men. People who do worse in school are men,\u201d Peterson listed. \u201cWhere\u2019s the dominance here precisely? What you\u2019re doing is you\u2019re taking a tiny substrata of hyper-successful men and using that to represent the entire structure of Western society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peterson continued to challenge Lewis\u2019 assumption that disparity must imply discrimination. \u201cThis is a trope that people just accept. \u2018Western society is a male-dominated patriarchy.\u2019 No, it\u2019s not, that\u2019s not true.
