Americans deserve to know if political motives are behind moves that put their security at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FGI launched its investigation in January two months after President Biden tapped the nation\u2019s oil reserves ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The White House put 50 million barrels on the market to quell rising gas prices only for pressure at the pump to reach new heights weeks later as a consequence of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/11\/joe-biden-could-bring-down-gas-prices-tomorrow-hes-choosing-not-to\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden-engineered<\/a> scarcity. <\/p>\n<p>President Biden has again tapped the emergency reserves twice since November, announcing both on the first and final days of March the release of 30 million and 180 million barrels respectively. The latter release is being drawn out over six months and is slated to end in October to coincide with the fall midterm season. <\/p>\n<p>By November, Biden will have drawn down the 260 million barrels from the nation\u2019s emergency reserves within two years of inauguration, leaving the stockpile at its lowest level since 1986. On Tuesday, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/06\/joe-biden-is-sending-u-s-reserve-oil-overseas-as-americans-cope-with-record-gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> 5 million went overseas to countries such as India, the Netherlands, and China.<\/p>\n<p>This spring, the Department of Energy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/doe-announces-long-term-buyback-plan-ensuring-continued-availability-strategic-petroleum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0plans to replenish only 60 million barrels of what\u2019s been released despite an authorized storage capacity of 714 million barrels. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/PET_STOC_WSTK_A_EPC0_SAS_MBBL_W.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to the Energy Information Administration, just more than 492,000 barrels remained in storage on July 1 exactly one month into the six-month hurricane season. Atlantic superstorms hampering Gulf Coast production have historically provoked presidential releases from the emergency reserves as opposed to their contemporary service as desperate levers for political capital.<\/p>\n<p>The SPR was established by Congress in the aftermath of the 1970s energy crises when Arab countries implemented an oil embargo to the United States. The reserves are intended to maintain a reliable stockpile in the event of a major disruption in supply such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After the cyclone\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2005\/08\/31\/news\/spr\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">knocked out<\/a>\u00a095 percent of the region\u2019s crude output and 88 percent of its natural gas production, President George W. Bush released\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/fecm\/strategic-petroleum-reserve-0#:~:text=The%20results%20of%20the%20Hurricane,were%20received%20from%20seven%20companies.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">30 million<\/a>\u00a0barrels of oil onto the market.<\/p>\n<p>The only sudden supply disruption to hit the United States under the Biden administration, however, came from the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/05\/13\/new-mexico-oil-disaster-atop-colonial-pipeline-fiasco-exposes-lunacy-of-biden-energy-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colonial Pipeline<\/a> hack when the company operating the East Coast\u2019s largest pipeline were hit with a ransomware attack. Biden didn\u2019t order his first release from the petroleum reserves, however, until his administration\u2019s anti-fossil fuel agenda spiked gas prices headed into the November holiday. <\/p>\n<p>Last month, the nationwide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline eclipsed $5 for the first time, despite the president\u2019s efforts to artificially suppress rising prices with the emergency reserves. On Thursday, prices remained high at $4.75 per gallon, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to AAA travel agency, while Americans cope with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/16\/study-from-former-treasury-secretary-finds-inflation-is-much-worse-than-the-government-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accelerating inflation<\/a>. The high prices are a reflection of self-inflicted scarcities in supply after months of animosity toward the industry from the Biden administration, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/17\/with-push-for-electric-vehicles-democrats-pursue-the-paris-hilton-strategy-on-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">telling<\/a> Americans to simply buy expensive electric cars. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, the animosity continued with federal officials preparing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/biden-plans-to-block-new-offshore-oil-drilling-in-atlantic-pacific-11656709209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cancel<\/a> oil and gas projects in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Biden\u2019s director of the National Economic Council, Brian Deese, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/01\/biden-regime-admits-on-camera-ushering-in-liberal-world-order-is-more-important-than-affordable-gas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the administration\u2019s commitment to usher in the \u201cliberal world order\u201d was more important than American access to affordable gas. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
