Two insiders told Bloomberg that the movie will receive financial backing from Netflix. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa Favorite,\u201d which will be directed by Maiwenn Le Besco, is scheduled to be released in 2023 in French theaters. It will hit Netflix France 15 months later and then possibly be released to worldwide audiences later, though it\u2019s unclear if and when that would happen.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives for Netflix and for \u201cLa Favorite\u201d producer Why Not Productions declined to comment on the rumors.<\/p>\n<p>If true, \u201cLa Favorite\u201d would be Depp\u2019s first acting role since being shunned in Hollywood following Heard\u2019s allegations of domestic violence against him. The 59-year-old \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d star filed defamation charges against his ex because of lost work and a tarnished reputation due to her claims. The actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-twist-emerges-with-the-10-35-million-in-damages-that-amber-heard-owes-johnny-depp\">won $10 million<\/a> in damages in June following a long, drawn-out court battle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Depp\u2019s last film was \u201cMinamata\u201d in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Per reports, this would be the actor\u2019s first time acting in a French film. It\u2019s scheduled to be shot this summer in France in locations including the Versailles castle.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors were circulating that Depp could return to the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d franchise, but his rep explicitly denied them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is made up,\u201d Depp\u2019s spokesperson told NBC News in a statement, The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-is-made-up-johnny-depps-rep-denies-rumors-hell-return-to-pirates-of-the-caribbean-franchise\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Depp is still angry with Disney for firing him in the first place without him being tried or convicted of any crimes. \u201cCaptain Jack Sparrow was a character I built from the ground up and was something that I, of course, put a lot of [myself] into the character and also having worked on these films with these people and added much of myself, much of my own re-writing of the dialogue and scenes and jokes,\u201d he said, per Movieweb.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t quite understand how, after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship certainly for Disney, that suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent,\u201d the actor continued.<\/p>\n<p>Depp\u2019s starring in a French film could mean he\u2019s moving on from \u201cPirates\u201d and from other major Hollywood studios that shunned him after Heard\u2019s accusations during the height of #MeToo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix is co-financing Johnny Depp\u2019s first project since he won big in a highly publicized defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, according to Bloomberg.
